He "of Lowell" married, 20 Oct 1846, Lowell, MA, Idris F. Richardson of Lowell, daughter of William and Hannah (-----) Richardson. She was born about Jul 1826, Wheelock, VT, and died 12 Dec 1910, Chelmsford, MA, aged 84 years 5 months, of malignant disease of vulva, vagina, and urethra, probably epithelioma.
Phoenix says the following: "Alvah Spaulding Whitney ... went to Lowell, Mass., where he married, 20 Oct. 1846, Idris Richardson, of Lowell, formerly of Stowe, Vt. After his marriage, he lived successively in Wolcott, Vt.; Lowell, Mass., again; Craftsbury, Vt.; Hyde Park, Vt; and again in Wolcott. He enlisted, 11 Aug. 1862, in the Union army, and died in Virginia, 21 Jan. 1863, and was buried there. She was living at Lowell, in 1874.

Lowell, MA, vital records give the birth of Idris Whitney, daughter of Alva and Silvia, on 5 Jul 1851, in Lowell. The father was a watchman living on Keene St., Lowell. The parents were born in Wolcott and Stow, VT, respectively. This appears to be a garbled version of the birth of Ida, above.
