Darius Thomas Whitney, parentage unknown, was born 1833, NY, and died 22 Jun 1923, El Paso Co., CO.

He married firstly circa 1855, IN, Abigail Ann Brumley, daughter of William and Jane (McNeil) Brumley. She was born ca 1833, Greenfield, IN, and died circa 1866, IA.

He married secondly circa 1867, probably NE, Catherine -----, of unknown parentage. She was born ca 1842, OH, and it is unknown if they were divorced or she died prior to his third marriage.

He married thirdly circa 1889, Tipton, NE, Mary Ella (Glidden) Whitney, daughter of John William and Mary (Blanchard) Glidden, and first wife of Willis Whitney. She was born 13 Mar 1855, ME, and died 8 Mar 1928, El Paso Co., CO.

Although the father of Darius is unknown, it is likely his mother was Lovina (poss. Hadley) based upon the 1850 census. Apparently his father died before 1850 and at least one descendent has suggested his name may have been Thomas based upon family stories, but no proof has been found. If his name was Thomas, there was an unidentified Thomas Whitney that nearly fits the family profile living in Sparta, Livingston Co., NY in 1840.

Darius apparently had 3 wives, making it difficult to properly identify the biological mother of some of the children as death records of the mothers are lacking. Marriage and divorce records have not been located for Willis and Mary Ella (Glidden) Whitney. This coupled with the fact that Mary married secondly an individual with the same surname of Whitney makes it difficult to identify with certainty the biological father of the children born surrounding the divorce. It assumed that Willis is the father of the children born in NE and the Darrius Thomas is the father of the children born in KS.
