Edson7 Whitney (Rufus6, Isaac5, [prob.] Joshua4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Rufus6 and Alvira (Lee) Whitney, was born 10 Apr 1831, Granville, NY, and died 23 Dec 1863, military hospital, Harpers Ferry, WV, of committant fever.
He married, about 1856, Deantha R. Cook, daughter of Seth and Catherine (Richardson) Cook. She was born 6 Aug 1833, Granville, NY, and died 3 Feb 1886, Peru, VT. She married secondly, 18 Jan 1866, Weston, VT, Reuben Lampson, son of Eben H. Lampson.
He enlisted 14 Aug 1862, Whitehall, NY, as a Musician in Co. C, 123rd New York Infantry Regiment, and was mustered in 4 Sep 1862. He was 31 years old, born in Granville, NY, blue eyes, brown hair, florid complexion, 5 feet 5 inches tall, a farmer. He was promoted to Full Private. He was mustered out by death on 23 Dec 1863, at Hospital, Harper's Ferry, VA (now WV). She married secondly, 18 Jan 1866, Weston, VT, Reuben Lampson.
His widow Diantha applied for a pension, Application No. WC-22933, and one for her daughter Katie R., Application No. WC-96253.
