George Leavitt8 Whitney (Hananiah7, Hananiah6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Hananiah7 and Mary Leavitt (Beals) Whitney, was born 16 Dec 1817, Winchendon, MA, and was baptized 29 Sep 1823, Winchendon, MA,[1] and died 22 Aug 1889, Newton, MA, aged 72 years 8 months 6 days, of dilatation of heart.[2]

He married firstly, 30 Mar 1841, Lowell, MA, Harriet Atwood Mears "both of Lowell",[3] daughter of Daniel and Mary (-----) Mears. She was born about 15 Dec 1819, Albany or Paris, ME, and died 4 Mar 1866, Stoneham, MA, aged 46 years 2 months 19 days, of scrofula humor.[4]

He married secondly, 7 Nov 1866, Stoneham, MA, Elizabeth Ann (Leeds) Washburn, daughter of Joseph and Eliza (Lynde) Leeds.[5] She was born 9 Jan 1830, Stoneham, MA, and died 12 Jun 1909, Somerville, MA, aged 79 years, of senile dementia and acute indigestion.[6] She had married firstly, 23 November 1853, Stoneham, MA, Jason D. Washburn.

He was a grocer and farmer.

i. George M.9 Whitney, b. 7 Aug 1846, Springfield, MA;[7] m.(1) Cynthia Emerson; m.(2) Sarah L. Johnson.
ii. Clara B. Whitney, b. 2 Nov 1848, Lowell, MA;[8] d. 10 Jun 1877, Newton, MA, aged 28 years 8 months, of asphyxia;[9] unmarried. Her name was alternately Clara J. Whitney.

George Leavitt8 and Elizabeth Ann (Leeds)(Washburn) Whitney had no children.

i. George R. Washburn, b. Oct 1858, MA; d. aft. 1910; m. 10 Dec 1885, North Adams, MA, Amelia J. Thames.
