George S. Whitney, son of ----- and Elizabeth (-----) Whitney, was born 27 Aug 1868, NY, and died 17 May 1924, Gloversville, NY.[1] He was buried in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.[2]

He married 29 Jun 1901, Gloversville, NY,[3] Sarah Duesler, daughter of ----- and Anna (-----) Duesler. She was born 16 Jun 1878, and died 18 Dec 1921, Gloversville, NY.[4] She was buried in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.[5]

From George's FindAGrave page:

"He was the son of E. J. and Elizabeth Whitney.
"On June 29, 1901 in Gloversville, he married Sarah E. Duesler.
"George S. Whitney, a painter, who lived alone at 26 Bleecker street, was found dead shortly after noon Saturday in a gas filled room in his home by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Anna Duesler, 76 First avenue, and all efforts at resuscitation by physicians and the pulmotor from fire headquarters, failed to bring him back to life. The gas had been flowing from two open jets on a gas range.
"Whitney was a painter and worked periodically. He was well known in the city.
"About two years ago Mrs. Whitney died and since then he had been keeping bachelor quarters."

George S. and Sarah (Duesler) Whitney had no children.

Notes

Concerning his parentage only his mother Elizabeth is proven, known from the 1880 census. His father had died before that. On his FindAGrave page his father's name is given as "E. J." Whitney, whose identity is not known. On an Ancestry.com public tree, it gives his parents as James H. Whitney (d. 1876) and Elizabeth Tripp (Jun 1840-Jan 1913), and state that she married secondly William Radley. George was living with them in 1900, so this is credible. Also, the marriage record on 25 May 1889, Gloversville, between William Radley and Elizabeth (Tripp) Whitney has been found.[6] No marriage of an Elizabeth Tripp to any Whitney has been found, nor any record of her birth, about Jun 1840, NY, or death, said Jan 1913. William and Elizabeth appear in the censuses of 1905 and 1910 in Gloversville, but not thereafter.
