George Washington Whitney, (William) son of William and Sarah (Compton)(Ellender) Whitney,[1], was born 18 Oct 1819, unknown,[2] and died 6 Nov 1851, Petit Caillou, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.[3] He was murdered just one year after the death of his brother-in-law, Tydens James Simpson.

He married, 17 Aug 1840, Huoma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, Celesie Artemise Duplantis,[4] daughter of Jean Baptiste Duplantis II and Marie Francoise Brunet. She was born 28 Nov 1823, Thibodaux, Lafourche Interior Parish, LA, and died unknown date.

He was baptized with the name "George Washington Alexis Whitney".

They lived along Bayou Petit Caillou in southern Terrebonne Parish, LA.

He was murdered in a long-standing feud between the Whitney Family and the Daspit Family. He was shot twice in the head outside the home of the Daspits, and no records have ever been found showing any justice activities by the Court system of the parish; which was not unusual considering the only judge in the parish was Pierre Daspit. His widow remarried Louis Eugene Vauclain on 04 Jun 1866 in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Houma, Terrebonne Parish, LA.

Notes

"My Dad who is 93 in Oct. submitted his DNA to a group that has a data pool. The results: we are related to the John & Elenor Whitney from Mass. It still leaves about 100 years to get to them ........ our broken link is Ky." - email excerpt from Alicia, July 2006.
