James8 Whitney (Joel7, Elijah6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Eleazer3, Thomas2, John1), son of Joel7 and Abial (Nason) Whitney, was born 1 May 1824, Sutton, MA,[1] and died after 1880.

He married, 14 Mar 1844, Sutton, MA, Mary Chadwick.[2] She was born Jan 1830, Pelham, MA, and died after 1900.

i. George Francis9 Whitney, b. 4 May 1845, Grafton, MA;[3] d. after 1870.
ii. Ann A. Whitney, b. 1847; d. 29 Feb 1848, Monson, MA, aged 8 months, of measles.[4]
iii. Emma Elizabeth Whitney, b. 27 May 1849, Monson, MA;[5] d. -- Oct 1851, Dudley, MA, aged 2 years 5 months, of croup.[6]
iv. Nelson Edward Whitney, b. 5 Jul 1851, Dudley, MA.[7]
v. William O. Whitney, b. ca. 1853, CT. No further record found.
vi. Ella Eliza Whitney, b. 15 Jan 1856, Stafford Springs, CT; d. 27 Sep 1935; m. 15 Oct 1876, Newton Dwight Skinner.
vii. Mary Jennie Whitney, b. ca. 1861, CT; unmarried 1880.
viii. Hattie M. Whitney, b. 2 Sep 1862, Stafford CT; d. 15 Nov 1929, Stonington, CT; m. before 1880, John Sterling Cady, b. ca. 1868, KY.
ix. Lenora May Whitney, b. 20 Feb 1868, Staffordville, CT; d. 1944, CT; m. 25 Jul 1887, William Samuel Walbridge.
