- "I have found James B. Packard Whitney's parents: James A. and Mary Ann (Kenniston) Packard. James B. was likely born in Stockbridge after his father abandoned his mother in 1856. Mary Ann and 2 of her children (James took the rest with him to Massachusetts) were supported by the town of Stockbridge in the late 1850's. Her divorce decree in 1863 only lists one son. I assume it is because James B. had been placed with the Whitneys in 1859-60."
