James Leffert8 Whitney (Elhanan Winchester7, Simon Howard6, Abraham5, Abraham4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Elhanan Winchester7 and Sarah A. (Bogart) Whitney, was born 17 Nov 1857, Lancaster, MA [given name omitted],[1] and died 30 Apr 1937, Harvard, MA, aged 79 years 5 months 13 days, of mitral insufficiency and hypostatic pneumonia.[2]

He married firstly, 21 Dec 1890, Harvard, MA, Lizzie Eugenia Barnard, daughter of Abner and Rebecca E. (Willard) Barnard.[3] She was born 5 Apr 1858, Harvard, MA, and died 22 Nov 1915, Harvard, MA, aged 57 years 7 months 17 days, of pericarditis.[4] She was buried in Bellevue Cemetery, Harvard, MA.

He married secondly, 29 Dec 1917, Harvard, MA, Helen Louisa Barnard, daughter of Abner and Rebecca E. (Willard) Barnard.[5] She was born about 1860, Harvard, MA.

From 1879-81 was a member of the school committee; resided Harvard, MA.

ii. Helen Eugenia Whitney, b. 29 Mar 1894, Harvard, MA.[7]
