John Whitney, parentage unknown but had a brother William Whitney and a 'cousin' Eustace Whitney son of Thomas Whitney (could this have been this Thomas Whitney?), will dated 12 Jul 1657, probated 26 Nov 1657.

He married Elianor -----, daughter of Edward ap John of Glascwm, Radnorshire. It is not known what surname she herself used, though it is possible she followed the traditional Welsh naming scheme, being "Elianor verch Edward ap John".

Eleanor had a younger sister Katherine, who m. William Duppa.

Will of John Whitney:

In the name of God Amen - The xiith day of July in the yeare of our Lord God 1657 I John Whitney of the parish of llanbeder paincastle in the County of Radnor beinge Sicke of body but of perfect memory (thanks be to God) Doe make this my last will and testamt in manner and forme followinge First I desire of my God forgiveness And my body to be intered in christian buriall and I give to the poore of the parish of llanbeder tenn shillings Secondly I give devise and bequeath to Eustance Whitney my second Sonne All that Messuage or Tenemt in llanbuchawith called tyr David ap Jenn Jenkin with all houses lands meadowes leasowes pastures thereunto belonginge in as ample manner as I purchased the Same of the gift and grant of Watkin ap David and other two meadowes and one Close of errable and pasture conteyninge in the whole xxij acres or thereabouts the which I purchased of Robert Whitney and John William To have and to hold the Same Messuage and lands thereunto belonginge with the above said meadowes and close afore witch unto the Said Eustance Whitney and to his heires forever To be holden of the Lord of the Fee thereof and of right acustomed Thirdly I give devise and bequeath to John Whitney my youngest Sonne All those two Messuages or Tenemts called llydiad Rees Meili and y Gelly burse with all lands meadowes woods errable and pasture thereunto belonginge in as large and ample manner as I purchased the Same of the gift and grant of Thomas dd Meredd and Moures Griffith To have and to hold all the Said Tenements and Messuages with all lands thereunto belonginge unto the said John Whitney and his heires forever untill such time as Walter Whitney my eldest sonne shall Satisfie and pay unto the said John his heires and assignes the summe of Two hundred poundes of good and lawfull money of England And after Such payment as aforesaid I give devise and bequeath the said Messuages and Tenements with all the lands thereunto belonginge unto the said Walter Whitney and his heires forever. Item I devise give and bequeath to Margarett my daughter all that Messuage or Tenement called Ty and Tyr Mathew ap Jenn Ewyn with all lands meadowes errable woods and pastures thereunto belonginge in as large and ample manner as I purchased the Same of the gift and grant of one John Thomas and Ivane lloyd with all other appurtenances thereunto belonginge which premises are lyinge and beinge in the parish of Krygarina in the county of Radnor To have and to hold the Said Messuage and all the lands and p'mises thereunto belonginge with the appurtenances to the said Margarett and her heires forever to be holden by the rents due and of right accustomed Item I give devise and bequeath unto Walter Whitney my eldest Sonne all those two Messuages or Tenements called by the names of lloyn e Hoyln e_ y keven_lasi with all lands meadows pastures errable and woods thereunto belonginge To have and to hold to the Said Walter his heires and assignes forever To be holden of the Lord of that ffee and of right accustomed which premisses are lyinge and beinge with the parish of Glascome in the county of Radnor Item I give devise and bequeath to my executors hereafter named all my estate right title and interest in certain lands which I have of the gifte and grant of Sibell Whitney and William Whitney lyinge in the parish of Rulen in the Said county of Radnor for and towards the payment of certain debts due upon me for Severall persons Item I doe appoint my wife Eilnor and my Sonne Walter to be my joynt executors of this my last will and Testament And I give to my said executors all my personall estate and Substance dischargeing my debts and funerall expenses And also I give and bequeath to be paid by my executors unto my daughter Margarett the Sume of Fifty pounds more added to her porcon if shee marryeth with consent of her mother and uncle William Whitney and if not the Same to be voide and not guifte And I doe appoint my brother William Whitney and my cosen Eustance Whitney Sonne of Thomas Whitney to be overseers of this my last will and hereto put my hand and Seale the day and yeare above written John Whitney In presence of Wm Whitney the marke of dd. Miles William Bevan the marke of dd Bevan William
This will was proved at London the Six and twentith day of the month of November in the yeare of our Lord God one Thousand Sixe hundred Fiftie and Seaven before the Judges for probat of wills ane granting administrations lawfully authorized by the oathes of Elianor Whitney and Walter Whitney the naturall and lawfull sonne of the said deceased and joynt executors named in the Said will To whom was committed administration of all and singular the goods chattles and debts of the Said deceased they the Said Elianor and Thomas Whitney [sic] beinge first sworne in due forme of lawe by virtue of a commission well and truely to administer the Same.

i. Walter Whitney, "eldest son".
ii. Eustace Whitney, "second son".
iii. John Whitney, "youngest son".
iv. Margaret Whitney, unmarried in 1657.
