Family:Whitney, John (1762-1816)

John6 Whitney (Moses5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Moses5 and Rebecca (Hyde) Whitney, was born 8 Aug 1762, Newton, MA,[1] and died 28 Aug 1816, Newton, MA, or Brookline, MA, aged 54 years. He was buried in tomb 145, Granary Burying Ground, Boston, MA, and those records say he died 27 Aug 1816, aged 47 years.

He "Mr." "of Needham" and "of Dedham" married, 4 Sep 1785, Newton, MA, "Miss" Polly Pope "of Dedham".[2]

Children of John6 and Polly (Pope) Whitney:

i. Moses7 Whitney, b. say 1786.
ii. Asa Whitney, b. say 1788.
iii. (daughter) Whitney.
iv. (daughter) Whitney.

Notes

There were two Polly Whitney women who died in Newton, MA, one on 26 Apr 1817,[3] and the other on 23 Aug 1818.[4] One of these was doubtless Polly (Pope) Whitney. The other may have been one of her two daughters, unmarried, although this is just a guess based on the fact that both deaths were recorded in the same church.
