John6 Whitney (Cornelius5, Matthias4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Cornelius5 and Elizabeth (May) Whitney, was born 2 Jan 1804, Granville, NY, and died 2 Nov 1879, Altlantic, IA, aged 75 years of old age.[1]

He married firstly, 4 Mar 1827, Nancy Huntington. She was born 31 May 1801, and died 21 Oct 1834.

He married secondly, 14 Jan 1835, Caroline M. Herbert. She was born 9 May 1813, Herkimer Co., NY, and died 2 Sep 1858.

He married thirdly, 19 May 1860, Cass Co., IA, Mrs. Louisa M. (-----) Page. She was born about 1810, NY, and died before 1870, IA, s.p.

He married fourthly, 15 Nov 1871, Mrs. Elizabeth (-----) Moran. She was born 15 Dec 1811, and died IA, s.p.

John Whitney was born in Washington [County], NY. He was a farmer during his life and died in Cass County, IA, where he had resided a number of years, and was also one of its pioneers. His wife's name was Nancy Huntington, a native of New York, who died in Oswego County, that state. He resided Oswego County, NY, and Atlantic, IA.

vii. John Adam Clark Whitney, b. 11 Feb 1841, Oswego Co., NY; is a farmer; unmarried; resided Neola, Iowa.
viii. George Henry Whitney, b. 20 Mar 1844, Oswego Co., NY; m. Nov 1874, Hattie Craig; b. 1838; d. 16 Mar 1883. He resided Neola, IA. His is deputy sovereign for the Woodmen of the World.
ix. Nancy Caroline Whitney, b. 7 Oct 1846; d. 29 Aug 1847.
x. Casper Cole Whitney, b. 17 Sep 1849, Oswego Co., NY; m. Theresa -----.
xi. Luther Day Whitney, b. 23 Jul 1851, Oswego Co., NY; m. Lettie A. Irons.
xii. Alice Josephine7 Whitney, b. 12 Jul 1855; m. 15 Sep 1875, Henry Shank; resided Des Moines, IA. He was b. 2 Feb 1847; is an undertaker. Children:
