Jonas5 Whitney (David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of David4 and Rebecca (Fillebrown) Whitney, was born 25 Jun 1733, Waltham, MA,[1] and died 8 Sep 1778, Westminster, MA, in 46th year.[2]

Marriage intentions for him "of Narragansett No. 2" and Sarah Wetmore "of Lexington" were published 20 Aug 1757, Leominster, MA.[3] He "of Narragansett Township No. 2" married, 27 Sep 1757, Lexington, MA, Sarah Whittemore "of Lexington",[4] daughter of Benjamin and Ruhamah (Locke) Whittemore. She was born 22 Nov 1730, Concord, MA, and died 26 Jul 1821, Westminster, MA, aged 91 years.[5] She was also known as Sarah Whetmore.

Pierce says the following:[6]

He followed his elder brother to Narragansett No. 2, and on the 20th July, 1757, bought of Samuel MERRIAM of Lexington, the farm and buildings originally belonging to Nathan MERRIAM, dec'd. The estate consisted, substantially, of the present homestead of Daniel HARRINGTON and his son, James, in the south part of the town. The house then standing on the premises was located some twelve or fifteen rods N.E. of the now existing one, in the open field, all marks of which were long since obliterated. He married Sarah WHITTEMORE of Lexington, by whom he had 5 ch. The inventory of his estate was returned to probate court at Worcester by wife, Sarah, who was administratrix, Feb. 2, 1779.

Heywood says the following:[7]

"Whitney, Jonas5, another s. of Ensign David4 of Waltham, and hence bro. of Nathan (82), was b. June 25, 1733. He followed his elder bro. to Nar. No. 2, and on the 20th July, 1757, bought of Samuel Merriam of Lex. the farm and buildings originally belonging to Nathan (76) Merriam, dec'd. The estate consisted, substantially, of the present homestead of Daniel (15) Harrington and his s., James, in the south part of town. The house then standing on the premises was located some twelve or fifteen rods N. E. of the now existing one, in the open field, all marks of which were long since obliterated. He m. Sept. 27, of the same year, Sarah Whittemore of Lexington, by whom he had 5 chn. Jonas Whitney d. Sept. 8, 1778, a. 45; his wid. d. July 26, 1821."

iv. Joseph Whitney, b. 21 or 27 Apr 1768, Westminster, MA;[12] d. 13 Sep 1778, Westminster, MA, in his 11th year.[13]
v. Benjamin Whitney, b. 28 Apr 1770;[14] m. Nancy Fuller.
