He married, 1 Mar 1860, Rhuby H. Houghton, of Denmark, NY, daughter of Roland and Judith (Hulbert) Houghton. She was born 14 Feb 1835, NY, and died 21 Nov 1920. She was buried in Santa Ana Cemetery, Santa Ana, CA.
He was a carriage maker.
Nathaniel Bradish Whitney was the oldest son of Aaron Stearns Whitney and Hannah Bradish, and was born on his father's farm in the town of Champion, Jefferson County, NY, 13 Mar 1838. In 1846 his family removed to the town of Denmark, Lewis County, NY, and settled on a large farm near the village of Copenhagen. He attended the public school, afterward a select school in Copenhagen, and completed his education at the Norwich academy, at Norwich, CT. He married in 1860, Rhuby Houghton, of the town of Denmark, Lewis County, NY. From 1862 to 1872 he was engaged quite extensively in the cheese making industry, owning and operating several large factories. In 1873 he engaged in the manufacture of carriages at Deer River, Lewis County, NY, in which business he continued until 1889, when, on account of failing health, he removed to Santa Ana, Orange County, CA, where he is engaged in the same business at this writing (1894); resided Tustin, CA.

Oscar Nathaniel Whitney, b. 25 Jan 1866; m. 14 Jul 1894, Sterling, MA, Lilian May Walton/Walden, b. 10 Aug 1866 or 1862, Holyoke, MA, d. 4 Feb 1930, bur. Santa Ana Cemetery, Santa Ana, NY, dau. of William C. and Cordelia (Reed) Walden; resided Geneva, NY. He was b. near village of Copenhagen, town of Denmark, county of Lewis, state of New York, 25 Jan 1866. Moved with parents to village of Deer River, Lewis County, NY, in 1872, where he attended common school until age of fourteen. Worked for short time as clerk in American Express office at Lowville, NY, then telegraph operator for two years in office of Utica & Black River R. R., at Watertown, NY, then for short time clerk in American Express office at Potsdam, NY. 21 Apr 1884, moved to Rochester, NY, and until 1 Jan 1887, filled various positions for American Express County. On last named date was appointed agent for American Express County, at Geneva, NY, serving then in that capacity until 15 Jun 1891, when he resigned to accept a position with the People's Building Loan & Saving Association, of Geneva, NY, of which he was one of the incorporators, and of which he is at the present writing a director. iii. William S. Whitney, b. 10 Aug 1867; m. Alice M. Wiggins. iv. Florence Justine Whitney, b. 31 Oct 1868; resided Bakersfield, CA. For her biography, see History of Orange County, California. She was buried in Santa Ana Cemetery, Santa Ana, CA. v. Addie E. Whitney, b. 12 Mar 1871; resided Tustin, NY; m. George A. Morris; resided Bakersfield, CA.
