Noble Lyon Whitney (Benjamin, [poss.] Samuel Kellogg, Benjamin), son of Benjamin and Amelia (Mead) Whitney, was born 23 Apr 1836, Norwalk, CT, and died 12 Jan 1918, Wilton, CT. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton, CT.[1]

He married, about 1869, Mary Eliza Holly/Hawley, daughter of Samuel Whaley and Mariam A. (Fancher) Holly. She was born 2 Apr 1848, Pound Ridge, NY, and died 1920, Wilton, CT. She was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton, CT.[2]

He served in Company F, 17th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, in the Civil War. He was taken prisoner 5 Feb 1865, Dunns Lake, FL, and imprisoned in Andersonville Prison, GA.

He and his widow Mary E. Whitney were granted pensions based on his service: Invalid Application 21 Apr 1883, CT, #491,256, Certificate #466,082; Widow's Application 22 Jan 1918, CT, #1,113,785, Certificate #842,130.[3]

iv. Charles S. Whitney, b. 1872; d. 1872; bur. Hillside Cemetery, Wilton, CT.[7]
v. Ernest Chester Whitney, b. May 1884; d. 1971; bur. Hillside Cemetery, Wilton, CT.[8]
