Phinehas⁵ Whitney (Sylvanus⁴, Joseph³, Jonathan², John¹), son of Sylvanus⁴ and Hannah (-----) Whitney was born 7 Oct 1750, Dunstable, MA.^[1]

He married, 4 Mar 1778, Dunstable, MA, or 5 Mar 1778, Dunstable, NH, "Mrs." Susanna Swoller,^[2][3] daughter of Joseph and Esther (Robbins) Swoller, both "of Dunstable, N.H." She was born 4 Mar 1756, Dunstable, MA, and died 27 Apr 1848, Dunstable, MA.

i.	Phinehas6 Whitney, b. 3 Jun 1779, Dunstable, MA.[4] He may be the same as Phinehas Whitney of Merrimack, NH, Lee, MA, and Lowell, MA.
ii.	Susanna Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1781, Dunstable, MA;[5] m. 27 Dec 1815, Dunstable, MA, James Fosdick. "both of Dunstable, N.H."[6] The marriage was also recorded as 17 Dec 1815, Dunstable, NH.[7]
iii.	Joseph Whitney, b. 21 Jul 1783, Dunstable, MA;[8] m. Indiana Fletcher.
iv.	James Whitney, b. 15 Jun 1785, Dunstable, MA;[9] d. after 1850.
v.	Esther Whitney, b. 29 Sep 1788, Milford, NH; d. 6 Feb 1867; m. 3 Jun 1839, Nashua, NH, Jacob Hutchinson.[10]
vi.	Ruth Whitney, b. ca. Dec 1797, Nashua, NH; d. 13 May 1888, Lowell, MA, aged 90 years 5 months, of pneumonia;[11] m. 16 Mar 1826, Mont Vernon, NH, William Bradford, both of Merrimack, NH.[12]
vii.	Anna Whitney, b. 21 Jul 1800, Nashua, NH; d. 9 Oct 1895, Lowell, MA, aged 95, of "senile";[13] m. 21 Dec 1828, Boston, MA, Charles Sewell Butterfield.[14]
