Richard6 Whitney (Richard5, Richard4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of Richard5 and Mary (Perry) Whitney, was born 2 Feb 1752[/3], Harvard, MA,[1] and died 28 Sep 1835, Harvard, MA, aged 82 years 7 months.[2]

He married, 15 Dec 1772, Harvard, MA, Mercy Willard,[3] daughter of Joseph, Jr., and Elisabeth (Hapgood) Willard. She was born 16 Feb 1755, Harvard, MA, and died 15 Aug 1835, Harvard, MA, aged 81 years 6 months.[4]

He was born in Harvard where he always resided. 19 Apr 1775, he was in Capt. Fairbanks company from Harvard in the provincial regiment of foot of alarm men in Colonel Whitcomb's regiment which marched to Cambridge. In Jul 1777, he was in reinforcements sent from Harvard to assist Gen. Benjamin Lincoln who was then harassing the rear of the invading army. During 1777 he served in the companies of Capt. Hezekiah Whitney and Capt. Hills from Harvard. In Aug and Sep 1778, he was in Capt. Sawyer's company that took part in the operations in Rhode Island. In 1799 and 1800 he was selectman; resided Harvard, MA.

i. Betsey Willard7 Whitney, b. 5 Jun 1774, Harvard, MA;[5] m. 28 Jun 1796, Harvard, MA, Phineas Barnard.[6]
ii. Polly Whitney, b. 16 Mar 1777, Harvard, MA;[7] apparently died young.
iii. Levi Whitney, b. 16 Apr 1781, Harvard, MA;[8] d. 15 Apr 1784, Harvard, MA, aged 4 years.[9] Pierce alleges that he married Sarah Davis, but that apparently was Levi6 Whitney, born 30 Aug 1786, Harvard, MA (q.v.).
iv. Polly Whitney, b. 15 Apr 1789, Harvard, MA;[10] m. 21 Aug 1810, Harvard, MA, Thomas Houghton "3d".[11]
