Samuel9 Whitney ([prob.] Asa8, Jonathan7, Jonathan6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, John2, John1), probably son of Asa8 and Rhoda (Blaisdell) Whitney, was born 25 Jan 1837, ME, and died 7 Feb 1890, Auburn, ME. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Auburn, ME.[1]

He married, 9 Apr 1863, Mount Vernon, ME, Minerva Sylvester Gallison,[2] daughter of John Sylvanus and Sarah Wilder (Sprague) Gallison. She was born 11 Oct 1840, ME, and died 20 Nov 1889, Auburn, ME, aged 49 years 1 month 9 days. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Auburn, ME.[3]

Samuel Whitney was probably the son of Asa and Rhoda (Blaisdell) Whitney of Jay and Mount Vernon, Maine. For some reason Samuel as a 13 year old boy was living with the Townsend family in Wilton, Maine, in 1850. By 1860 Samuel had moved to Aroostook County where Minerva Gallison was also living. He married her in 1863 and shortly thereafter joined the First Maine Cavalry Regiment. After the war they settled in Auburn. They had at least two children: Frank L., b. abt 1868, and Mabel S., b. abt 1866. Frank married one Grace Sturtevant and at least for a while they lived in San Diego, California. They had at least one daughter Alvina [or Alverna] Whitney. b. abt 1900 in Maine. of whom there is no further record after the 1910 census.

i. Mabel Sarah10 Whitney, b. ca. 1866, ME; m. 3 May 1890, Auburn, ME, Clenton A. Sampson.[4]
ii. Frank L. Whitney, b. Apr 1868, ME; m. 1 May 1894, Auburn, ME, Grace E. Sturtevant.[5]
