Susannah4 Whitney (Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1), daughter of Jonathan3 and Susannah (Fairbanks) Whitney,[1] was born 20 or 29 Jan 1702/3, Sherborn, MA,[2] and died 29 Apr 1739, Holliston, MA,[3] not mentioned in her father's will.

She married, 25 Mar 1724, Sherborn, MA, Gershom Eames,[4] son of Samuel and Patience (Twitchell) Eames. He was born 29 Dec 1698, Framingham or Sherborn, MA, and died 9 Jan 1762, Holliston, MA. He married secondly, 11 May or 11 Jun 1741, Holliston, MA, widow Mary (Hunt) Leland, and had three more children.

He married Mary Hunt on 11 Jun 1741 at Holliston, MA; second wife, second husband.

Children of Gershom and Susannah4 (Whitney) Eames, all born Holliston, MA:

i. Susannah Eames, b. 2 Feb 1726; m. Joseph Cousins.
ii. Patience Eames, b. 5 May 1728; m. Ephraim Twitchell.
iii. Gershom Eames, b. 20 Jun 1730.
iv. Martha Eames, b. 20 Jul 1732; m. Thomas Drury.
v. Lois Eames, b. 28 Aug 1734.
vi. Lydia Eames, b. 19 Aug 1736.
vii. Mary Eames, b. 22 Apr 1739; d. 6 May 1739, Holliston, MA.

The vital records of Sherborn, MA, show the following: "Eames, Gershom, and Susannah Whiting, mar. 25 Mar 1724." This is an error. The bride's maiden name was Whitney. This is proven by the mention in Jonathan's will of his four grandchildren Gershom, Susannah, Martha, and Patience Emes, on 2 Feb 1753 (Middlesex County Probate Records, File #24692). These were the first four (and probably only surviving) children of Gershom and Susannah Eames, born in Holliston, MA. Apparently Susannah (Whitney) Eames died 29 Apr 1739, in Holliston, MA, 7 days after the birth of her seventh child, Marah.

1.^  Her parentage is proven by her birth record.

2.^  "Susanna [Whitney], d. of Jonathan and Susanna, [born] Jan. 20, 1702-3," according to Thomas W. Baldwin, ed., Vital Records of Sherborn, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850 (Boston, MA: 1911).

4.^  "Susannah [Whiting], and Gershom Eames, [married] 25 Mar 1724," according to Sherborn Vital Records. Also, "Gershum Eams & Susanah Whiting both of Sherborn, married by Penn. Townsend Esq. J.P. on Mar. 25, 1724" according to Boston Vital Records.
