Family home at Tir Rhu-Nalt of Daniel Morgan, grandfather of Martha Davies. William and Martha lived here for a time.

William Whitney, (WalterA, TheophilusB), son of WalterA and Sarah (Rosser) Whitney, born about 1811, Llanelly, Breconshire, Wales, and died 19 Dec 1880.

He married Martha Davies, 12 Apr 1828, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. She was born circa 1816, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales.

The family resided in Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales in 1841 where William worked as a collier.

A John Whitney, b. ca. 1826 (not in Monmouthshire, Wales), was listed with the family in 1841, but was listed after the children along with other non-family members. He did not reside with the family in 1851 or 1861. It is not clear who this was.

Children of William and Martha (Davies) Whitney:

i. Thomas Whitney, b. ca. 1830, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Resided with the family in 1861. He "remained at home a bachelor."
ii. Sarah Whitney, b. ca. 1832, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Did not reside with the family in 1861. "Married Lewis Lewis of Blaentillery a not happy marriage. She was engaged to a much better man but her mother thought Lewis Lewis a better match and witheld the correspondence of the man Sarah liked."
iii. Martha Whitney, b. ca. 1833, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Did not reside with the family in 1861. "Married a Mr James who was in charge of the truck department of the L. N. W. R. a very happy and prolific marriage. He was killed on the railway leaving his wife and five children. I remember him visiting us his face a mass of black hair moustache and beard seemed to be one and I wondered how he managed to eat. I remember the day he was killed and the sorrow the news gave my mother. I was not three years of age then."
iv. William Whitney, b. ca. 1834, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Did not reside with the family in 1861.
v. Rebecca Whitney, b. ca. 1837, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Unmarried and resided with the family in 1861.
vi. Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1839, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Unmarried and resided with the family in 1861.
vii. Mary Whitney, b. ca. 1840, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Unmarried and resided with the family in 1861.
viii. Elizabeth Whitney, b. ca. 1843, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Unmarried and resided with the family in 1861.
ix. John Whitney, b. ca. 1845, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Resided with the family in 1861.
x. Miriam Whitney, b. ca. 1847, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Unmarried and resided with the family in 1861.
xi. Jane Whitney, b. ca. 1849, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Unmarried and resided with the family in 1861.
xii. Benjamin Whitney, b. ca. 1850, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire, Wales. Resided with the family in 1861.
