My Great-great Grandfather was Richard Dickson. The following is according to his nephew in a 1961 letter to my Grandfather:

Richard Dickson married unknown Whitney in Morrill, ME around 1860. He moved to Santa Rosa, CA with his wife and 3 children. Shortly thereafter, he, his wife and a daughter died and are buried there. His Brother-in-law, Edmond Whitney went to CA and returned with my Great Grandfather (Charles Henry Dickson) and his sister.

From the 1850 Census, there was a Samuel Whitney married to Margaret, with four children, Edmond, George, Harriet and Sarah living near Morrill, ME. The ages fit with the above story. By 1860, the same family was in Morrill, ME and the girls were probably married off.

So from this you can see I am still working on tracking this lineage down. To date, I cannot find any records from Santa Rosa, CA.
