Capt. Samuel7 Whitney (Samuel Austin6, Samuel5, Benjamin4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), born 30 Jul 1802; married 21 Nov 1844, Rebecca Witherle Howe; died Mar. 31, 1846.

For many years he was a merchant in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was highly esteemed for his worth and public spirit. He died drowned in Penobscot Bay with his wife, Mar. 31, 1846. The boat in which Capt. Whitney and his wife were riding came in collision with a huge cake of ice which made a hole in the bow. It sank and both were drowned. Resided Castine, Maine.
