Edson Whitney (Luther,Nathaniel,Samuel,Nathaniel,Nathaniel,John,JohnThomas), was born 1798, Vermont, and died May 1865, Kansas.
He married , Hancock County, Illinois, Martha Hill, daughter of Charles Hill . She was born , , and died , .
Edson, son of Luther Whitney b. 1777 Vermont was a prominent Whig politician in the history of Hancock County, Illinois. He was Sheriff for many years and "In the difficulties between the old citizens and Mormons he took an active part." He removed his family to Leavenworth, KS about 1855.(1) Questionable that Edson was the person killed in St Louis according to Pierce. It might have been son Cooley Whitney. (2)
