John6 Whitney (John5, Abraham4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), born Topstield, Massachusetts, 13 Apr 1780; married in Topsfield, Massachusetts, in 1809, Mary Mundy, born 30 Nov 1790; died July 23, 1878, in Goffstown.
He was born in Bolton and married his wife in Salem, Massachusetts. Soon after his marriage he moved to New Hampshire, settling in Weare and engaging in the manufacture of oil at a small village, which took its name from the oil mill and is at present known as Oil Mill Village. After a few years he sold his mill and purchased a farm at Goffstown and passed the remainder of his days on his farm. He died June 26, 1865; resided Goffstown, New Hampshire.

i. Artemas7 Whitney, born 30 Aug 1809, died 30 Jan 1810. ii. Millie Whitney, born 24 Jan 1810; married 29 Dec 1829, Silas Barnes, born May 3, 1800, died 16 May 1874. He was a clothier and farmer. She died 11 Jul 1874; resided Gofftown, New Hampshire - Ch.: Mary Alice, born June 4, 1831, died 31 Dec 1845; Albert W., born 9 Jan 1833; married Dec. 26, 1873; no ch.; resided Henniker, New Hampshire; Elizabeth R., born Sept. 18, 1834; married Mar., 1879; died 27 Jul 1890; Geo. A., born 29 Sep 1836 died Apr., 1881; Caroline M., born 21 Apr 1838, died Mar., 1853.
iii. Albert Whitney, born 21 Jul 1811; married Elizabeth Rice and Susan R. Rice. iv. Artemas Whitney, born 27 Feb 1814; married 26 Mar 1844, Louisa Phillips; married 2d, Jennie Barnes. He died s. p. Aug. 1879. v. John Whitney, born 3 Nov 1818, died 20 Feb 1823. vi. John Whitney, born 5 Apr 1824; married Eliza H. Fisher. vii. Mary Jane Whitney, born 21 Oct 1821; married 2 Nov 1848, Samuel J. Tenney. She died s. p. 21 Oct 1856. He ws born 1820. He married for 2d wife Rhoda F. Worthley, born 1838, died 1871; married 3d Clara Scribner; resided Goffstown, New Hampshire; one child by second wife. viii. Alice Whitney, born 26 Oct 1829; died 24 Aug 1830. ix. Harriett Whitney, born Oct 6, 1831; married 9 Feb 1857, Franklin F. Johnson. She died 22 Aug 1871. - Ch.: Clarence A., born 31 Oct 1860; dead, Bess L., born 12 Nov 1862; married Nov. 22 1887, Charles Fohn; resided Winchester, Massachusetts; Mabel W., born 12 May 1864; resided Nahant, Massachusetts.
