Family:Whitney, Torrey (1794-1872)

Torrey⁸ Whitney (Moses⁷, Samuel⁶, Samuel⁵, Nathaniel⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), born Marlboro, Vermont, 1 Jul 1794; married in Gibson, Pennsylvania, 22 Apr 1815, Betsey Lamb; born 10 Feb 1797; died at Thompson, Pennsylvania, 22 Oct 1865. She was dau. of Major Joel Lamb.

Torrey Whitney was born in Marlboro, Vermont, and united in marriage in Gibson, Pennsylvania. He died at Thompson, Pennsylvania. He settled, in 1815, in Hartford, Pennsylvania, where he carried on the cloth-dressing business with his brother William for three years. Torry removed to Jackson, Pennsylvania, and William to Massachusetts. The former conducted a saw mill and soon after moved to Gibson. In 1836 he moved to Thompson locating on a farm where he died. He was a member of the first Masonic lodge in Gibson and worshipful master of the first lodge in Jackson. He died 29 Dec 1872; resided Jackson, Pennsylvania.

ii.	Merrick T. Whitney, born 20 Nov 1818; married Fostina L. Wheaton.
iii.	Joel Barnard Whitney, born 5 Jan 1823; married Lucy Ann Babcock.
iv.	Russell V. Whitney, born 29 Jan 1832; married Melissa C. Wheaton.
