George Ervin8 Whitney (Albert Appleton7, Appleton Downer6, Asa5, Joshua4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of Albert Appleton7 and Jenette (Brown) Whitney, was born 2 Jun 1836 [in Massachusetts], and died [14 May 1910 in Harvey, Cook County, Illinois].[1]
"He married, 30 Jul 1858, Amanda -----. She was born 22 Jan 1839, and died after [1910]. He resided Des Moines, IA."
George and Amanda later moved in with daughter Mary and son-in-law Phillip McClellen in Harvey, Cook County, Illinois and can be found on the 1910 US Census. He was a horse trainer, as was his son-in-law Phillip.

i. David Arthur9 Whitney, b. 8 Jun 1859; m.(1) Laura B. Hicks; m.(2) Ruth Ann Morris. ii. Albert Ervin Whitney, "b. 6 Nov 1860; resided 1631 E. Walnut St., Des Moines, IA." HE later moved to Harvey, IL as well. iii. Mary Claire Whitney, "b. 23 Feb 1864; m. 27 Apr 1891, Abel L. Bishop; resided 1631 E. Walnut St., Des Moines, IA." Mary, also called 'Mayme' married Phillip McClellen on 19 Feb 1906 in Creston, IA. The family later moved to Harvey, IL.

Although a George was living next door to Robert, he may not have been Robert's brother George, since the former's family members do not match what we know of the latter. If this is not the right entry, then George and family are missing from the 1860 census.
