James Lewis⁸ Whitney (Abraham Johnson⁷, James⁶, Samuel⁵, Samuel⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), born 12 Mar 1808; married 7 Oct 1827, Lucy Maria Hall; died 7 Jul 1841; married 2d, 28 Oct 1841, Maria Eldred; born 24 Oct 1820.

He was born in Danby, New York, where he resided until 1837, when he moved to Caton. He has been justice of the peace and supervisor at Caton; resided Caton, New York.

Children of James Lewis⁸ and Lucy Maria (Hall) Whitney:

i.	Edgar Mortimer9 Whitney, born 20 Jul 1828; married Harriet Westcott and Laura Harris.
ii.	Oliver Wilkinson Whitney, born 2 Jan 1830; married Lucy B. Burdick.
iii.	Lucy Maria Whitney, born 6 Feb 1832; married 1851, Dyer Powers. She died Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, 19 Jun 1855.
iv.	James L. Whitney, born 28 Mar 1834; married 1852, Julia Harris; resided Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
v.	Emeline Amanda Whitney, born 5 Feb 1836; married 1854, Joseph Harris. She died Salamanca, New York, 19 Apr 1866.

Children of James Lewis⁸ and Maria (Eldred) Whitney:

vi.	Abram Johnson Whitney, born 4 Aug 1842; married Almira E. Brookman.
vii.	William (Whitney) Cowan, born 17 Sep 1853; married Priscilla E. Mead.
viii.	Dyer Whitney, born 7 Dec 1855; died 17 Jan 1858.
