Croeso i chi - Welcome

I am very fortunate in having quite unique surnames in my family tree. Coming from Wales, where the Jones', WIlliams,, Davies'. are in profusion it stands out to have a surname of Vaughan ( one of the earliest Welsh surnames and equivalent to todays use of Junior), and family names of Bowen ( a corruption of "son of Owain" - Ap Owain)- and of course Whitney.

The Vaughan's have not moved far in the last few hundred years - starting as farmers on the Welsh borders, and then being pulled into the iron industry and coal mining in Monmouthsire. The Bowen's made their living from the iron industry, starting in West Wales and then moving to the North East of England and then the USA (Pittsburgh) before settling in Monmouthshire.

But what about the Whitneys - well my Whitney family are a bit of a mystery to me. I never knew my Gandmother Ann Louise Whitney. But the records I have uncovered of the Whitney family she was part of show there were quite a few of them and there are some interesting clues that need to be uncovered. If any of their descendents come across this note I would welcome some help in piecing the story together.

And what about me - I follow the Vaughan tradition - having worked away from Mam Cymru (mother Wales) I now live back in Monmouthsire within the Brecon Beacons and Blaenavon World Heritage site.
