Will & Inventory of Rachel Whitney

In the name of God Amen the fifth day of March in the first yeare of the Reigne of our Soveraigne Lord James the Second by the Grace of God of England Scotland Ffrance and Ireland King Defender of the Ffaith etc. and in the yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Six Hundred Eighty and Ffoure I Rachel (Wife of Hugh Whytney of Coole Hall in the Parrish of Wrenbury & County of Chester Gent) being weake in Body but in perfecte minde and Memory, praise bee therefore given to Almighty God doe make and ordaine this my Present last Will and Testament in Man(n)er and forme following, Ffirst mend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, hoping through the Merits of Jesus Christ, to have full and free Pardon of all my Sins, and to Inherit everlasting life, And my Body I Commit to the earth to bee decently buryed at the discretion of my executors hereafter named, and as touching and concerning my Temperall Estate as It hath pleased Almighty God to Bestow upon mee, I having (by certaine deeds made & executed before the Solemnizing of Marriage Betweene mee and my deare and loving Husband Hugh Whytney afores(ai)d) full Powerto mee given and thereby reserved to dispose of ye same at my will and Pleasure, as by the sa(id) Deed being thereunto had more full and at Large doth and may appeare, and in Pursuance of my s(ai)d Power I give bequeath and dispose thereof as followeth ; Ffirst I give and bequeath unto Sir Robert Cotton of Combermere in the County of Chester afores(ai)d Kt. Bart. The Sume of Twenty Pounds If ye Same will bee Recover’d & had of Mr Owen ; Item I give and bequeath unto Dame Hester Wife of ye s(ai)d Sir Robert One Pound Item I give and bequeath unto Hugh Calveley Cotton, Thomas Cotton, George Cotton, Hester Lacon, Mary Ffowler, Elizabeth Glegg, Anne Taylor and Sydney Cotton The Sons and Daughters of the s(ai)d Sir Robert and Dame Hester the Sume of Twenty shillings aPiece, Except to Anne Taylor and to Her I give and bequeath ye sume of five Pounds ; Item I give unto my Kinsman Charles Hussey the sume of Ffive and Twenty Pounds Item I give unto Mary Griffies of Sallopp the sume of Ffoure Pounds and Ffive shillings Item I give and bequeath unto any other Person or Persons that have any Right or lawfull Interest to lay any Claime to any p(ar)te or p(ar)cell of my Estate hereby given and bequeathed the sume of one shilling aPiece, Lastly all the Residue and Remainder of my Personall Estate goods & Chatells whatsoever I doe give and bequeath unto my deare and loving Husband Hugh Whytney whom I appoint full and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto Putt my hand and seale the day & yeare first above written.
