IV. Mary Whitney, b. at Boonville, N. Y., 27 Jan. 1834; married in the Spring of 1856, at New Hartford, N. Y., John Burton; died at Marcy, N. Y., I 3 Sept. 1863, and was buried at New York Mills, N. Y. He lived at Marcy in 1874.

V. Joseph Whitney, b. at Boonville, N. Y., 4 July 1835; overseer of the carding department of the New York Mills; married, 6 Aug. 1862, at New York Mills, N. Y., by Rev. Edward W. Jones, Congregational, to Sarah Jane Carman, born at Binghamton, N. Y., 5 June 1844, dau. of Robert and Catharine (Foster) Carman. They lived at Ilion, N. Y., from their marriage until 1 March 1864; dwelt at Eaton, N. Y., for one year; and then settled at New York Mills, where he was living in 1874.

VI. Eleanor Whitney, b. at Booneville, N. Y., 22 Feb. 1837; married about March 1857, at Utica, N. Y., William Smith, a silver-plater, of Utica, whose parents (names unknown) lived at 4 Plant Street, in that city; died at New York Mills, N. Y., 1 Jan. 1859, and was buried there. He is said to have been a member of Co. L, 2d Reg., N. Y. Heavy Artillery; and died in Andersonville Prison, 2 Sept. 1864. She had twin children, one of whom died at birth, while the other lived to be three years and five months old; but we have been unable to ascertain the name, sex, and date of birth of either.
