Washington County, Ohio marriages WHITNEY James and Ruth Greene Nov 14, 1807 John and Sarah Chapman Mar 1, 1821 Thomas and Articimay Preston Oct 21, 1820 Squire Joshua Whitney and the correct Blodgett wife Many people have made this mistake, and given Joshua Whitney of Plainfield, Conn. the incorrect Blodgett wife. A correction the New England Historic and Genealogical Society Magazine tells is that the wife of this Joshua Whitney was AMY Blodgett, the daughter of Dr. William and Sarah Spaulding nee Hall Blodgett, born Feb 16, 1723-4 in Plainfield, Conn and died Dec 24, 1819 in Canaan, Conn. A daughter, Abigail Whitney was born Jan 10, 1744 in Plainfield, and married June 1 1768, in Plainfield, to Capt. Asa Bacon of Canterbury. She died Sept 21, 1821 in Woodstock, Conn. On the payroll of Capt. Spofford s Co., Col. Ebenezer Allen s Reg t of Militia, in the service of the state of Vermont, Aug 1780, 4th to 18th day, Pittsford, Vermont... .Silas WHITNEY. Ezra Spencer, son of William, born 1790, married Nancy Snell in Jan 1811, and after residing on the Cox farm for some time, removed to Pa. His wife died in 1813, and he returned to Pittsford, Vermont. In 1815 he married Mary WHITNEY, and again moved to Pa. CANTERBURY, NEW HAMPSHIRE, WHITNEY FAMILIES Leonard Whitney, the first of this family to reside in Canterbury, married ________Wheeler1, by whom he had several children; married Polly Elliott of Concord, New Hampshire as his second wife. Supposedly he was in the Revolutionary War. Children by _________Wheeler: Jeremiah Whitney who married Aug 10, 1812, in Canterbury, Mary Wiggin. Silas Whitney, of whom there is no information. Catherine Whitney, married Dec 15, 1830, in Canterbury, William Harrison Foster. Leavitt C. Whitney, born Dec 6, 1812 Dorcas Whitney, born 1818, married Joshua Parker. S. Elliott Whitney, born April, 1823, Joseph Whitney, son of Leonard and Polly Elliott Whitney, married Hannah R. Snell of Dover, New Hampshire. He died Sept 1, 1859, in Canterbury, aged 50. Hannah died Aug 26, 1864-5 aged 57 years. Children of Joseph and Hannah Snell Whitney: William Whitney, died Oct 7, 1836, aged 4 years. Laurentia A. Whitney, born Aug 15, 1833, married Abram Batchelder of Loudon, New Hampshire. Charles A. Whitney, died July 4, 1838, aged 3 years. Eliza A. Whitney married Joseph Porter Batchelder of Loudon, New Hampshire. Katie A. Whitney, married Anthony Cate. She died Aug 14, 1873, born 1840. George Whitney, died Nov 26, 1866, born 1848. Amanda Whitney. Leavitt C. Whitney, son of Leonard and Polly Elliott Whitney, was born Dec 6, 1812, in Canterbury, and married March 16, 1837, Nancy S. Sargent, born March 10, 1817, in Loudon, New Hampshire, died April 29, 1882. He died May 24, 1899. Children of Leavitt and Nancy Whitney: George W. Whitney, born July 16, 1841, resided in Boscawen, New Hampshire, and died there Feb 17, 1903. Charles S. Whitney, born July 27, 1843, enlisted in the Civil War and then disappeared forever. Armenia 3. Whitney, born Dec 10, 1845, married Dec 14, 1875, in Boscawen, Francis H. Morse. S. Elliott Whitney, born April 1823, married Sarah F. West of Boscawen, New Hampshire. He moved to Fisherville (now Penacook), and then to Plattsburg, New York, where he died in Dec 1897. Children of Elliott and Sarah West Whitney were: Charlotte E. Whitney. Ida Frances Whitney, born in Penacook, married Frank Davis. She died Jan 10, 1895, aged 39 years. Katherine M. Whitney, married James E. Riley. She died May 13, 1909, in Somerville, Mass. Unrelated Whitneys from this town,- Amos Whitney married Polly Fletcher, who was born 1800, died 1871, married 1839. Amos L. Whitney married Jemima Lane, born Jan 19, 1827 Catherine Whitney, married William Harrison Foster, born about 1800. William Scott Whitney, born March 4, 1854, married Elizabeth Goodwin, born April 25, 1854, resided in Fall River, Mass. JAFFREY, NEW HAMPSHIRE, WHITNEY FAMILIES Line of descent is from John Whitney of Watertown, Mass., to- Zimri Whitney, the fifth generation removed, who was born in Lunenberg, Mass, May 14, 1776, married Susannah Sanderson on May 28, 1801, removed to Rindge, New Hampshire in 1812, to Jaffrey in 1814, and Peru, Vermont in 1826. His land in Jaffrey was lot 13, range 8, and was previously the home of Deacon William Smiley. Zimri died in Peru, Vermont on Aug 24, 1862; his widow died about 1865. Children of Zimri and Susannah Sanderson Whitney: Isaac S. Whitney, born April 7, 1802, married in 1822, Maria Ovington, of Dublin, New Hampshire. They removed to Jaffrey. He was a blacksmith by trade. In several years the family settled in Bethel, Maine. Children of Issaac S. Whitney and Marian Ovington Whitney were eight in number. Abraham Whitney, born Jan 19, 1804, second child of Zimri and Susannah, married Adeline Sawyer, Nov 23, 1829, and settled in Boston, Mass. In 1867 he returned to Jaffrey, and settled on lot 12, range 6. He purchased, and moved to the next lot number 5. He met an untimely death, Feb 22, 1872. He was a resident of Boston, Mass thirty-nine years, and a police-officer there twenty-one years. Children of Abraham and Adeline Whitney were: Edward Sawyer Whitney, born Oct 17, 1831, died young. Frances Adeline, born May 5, 1832, married Nov 22, 1851 to Daniel W. Farr of Boston. She died Feb 6, 1867. Charles Whitney, third child of Zimri and Susannah, married Adeline Strong. He died in Charlestown, Mass., Feb 26, 1851. They had ten children. Alvah Whitney, fourth child of Zimri and Susannah, was born June 27, 1808, and married April 16, 1838 to Caroline Geer. He died in Cambridge, Mass., 1873. They had three children. Susannah Whitney, fifth child of Zimri and Susannah, was born Aug 22, 1810, and married Benjamin Penfield of Gorham, Maine. They had seven children. Hosea Whitney, born in Rindge, March 17, 1813, was the sixth child of Zimri and Susannah, and married Charlotte Sawyer, 1837. He died in Charlestown, Mass., July 1, 1861. They had four children. Thomas P. Whitney, seventh child of Zimri and Susannah, was born in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Aug 29, 1816, and married, April 26, 1838, to Harriet A. Benjamin. They resided in Jaffrey. Had six children. George S. Whitney, was born in Jaffrey, April 17, 1819, the eighth child of Zimri and Susannah. He married Eveline Barnard in 1844, and removed to Glen s Falls, New York, where he died, Aug 25, 1863. John S. Whitney, ninth child of Zimri and Susannah, was also born in Jaffrey, May 21, 1822, and married Valissa P. Johnson. They had five children. They resided in Jaffrey. Richard B. Whitney, tenth child of Zimri and Susannah, was born in Jaffrey, June 18, 1825. March 1873, there was a census taken of the town of Jaffrey, and the following Whitneys were there: Henry H. age 67, born Mass. Thomas P. age 56, born Mass. Caroline age 62, born Mass. Harriet A. age 53, born NH Lot #22 John age 50 born NH Alvira S.age 58 born NH Eliz. A. age 24, born Mass. Lot 17 POMFREY NOTES, CONNECTICUT WHITNEYS The Quinebaug Plantation Meeting of Nov 13, 1699 included Joshua Whitney. On May 13, 1721, inhabitants of Canterbury, Conn. appealed to the Pomfrey parish for a separate parish and minister, and one of the signers was Ezekiel Whitney. Town affairs of Killingly in 1728 had the participation of William Whitney. Pomfrey, Conn., Nov 5, 1742, invoked the withdrawal of a controversial minister, and one of the signers was William Whitney. Mr. Josiah Whitney, native of Windham, Conn., born in Plainfield, Aug 11, 1731, graduate of Yale, 1752, was assigned to the Brooklyn parish. He spent many years in the parishes of Windham County, and was a kind, crusty character, much beloved by his parishioners, and admired by his fellow clergymen. In 1802 Mr. Whitney was honored by Harvard College with an honorary doctor s degree. And on Feb 2, 1806, the church celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his settlement with them. Mrs. Lois (Beck) Whitney, Dr. Whitney s first wife, died in 1789. Their two oldest sons died during the Revolution, being seized with smallpox. Another son, Robert, died of consumption at the age of twenty-one. Six daughters survived their mother. Dr. Whitney married the second time, the widow of Samuel Chandler of Woodstock, Mrs. Anna Paine Chandler. NEWPORT, VERMONT, WHITNEY FAMILIES Jazaniah Whitney, born Sept 1, 1780, came from St. Johnsbury, Vermont, in 1820. He married Rebecca Whipple, dau of Elisha. Children: Sally M. Whitney, born Aug 11 i8O4, married Moses B. Hatch Orlando Whitney, born March 26, 1806, married Eliza A. Carlton. Orange Whitney, born May 8, 1808. Lambert Whitney, born Oct 10, 1812, became a physician in Olean, N.Y. He married Sally Senter. Their children were; Russell, Lambert (who became a physician in San Francisco, Ca), James, Frances. Orange Whitney, son of Jazaniah and Rebecca, born May 8, 18O8, was a farmer in Newport, and then went into the boot business. He also built the Phenix Hotel in the city. He married Emeline Harris. Children; Charles F. Whitney, born Feb 9, 1839. Charles H. Whitney, born March 6, 1843. Amanda L. Whitney, born May 29, 1854. Calvin H. Whitney, born Dec 6, 1840 Albert 0. Whitney, born March 10, 1850 George F. Whitney, son of Orange and Emeline, was born Feb 9, 1839, and resided in Newport, on his farm. He was a state representative in 1878, and was re-elected to the same office in 1879 and 1880. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He married Azuba, dau of Cyril Wheeler. Frank G. Whitney was his son, born March 11, 1865. Calvin H. Whitney, son of Orange and Emeline, was born Dec 6, 1840, and became a merchant in the town. For a short time he was the manager of the Phenix Hotel. He married Laura Emerson of Chelsea, Vermont. Albert 0. Whitney, son of Orange and Emeline, was born March 10, 1850. He sought work in his brother Calvin s store as a young man. With the experience in the mercantile trade, he went to Boston, and a few years later returned and purchased his brother s store. He married, Dec 11, 1875, Hattie Burroughs of Alstead, Vermont. Stephen Whitney, born June 10, 1792, came to Newport from Claremont, New Hampshire, and settled on a farm in the outskirts of town. He married Sarah Bailey. Their children were: Sarah F. Whitney, born Dec 25, 1827, married Barney Whittle, and moved to Croyden, Vermont. Stephen P. Whitney, born April 9, 1830, married Mary J Pollard. ______ Whitney, born Aug. 12, 1832. Mary E. Whitney, born Sept. 14, 1834, married Hon. Edmund Burke. George F. Whitney, son of Stephen and Sarah Bailey Whitney, born Aug 12, 1832, at Claremont, New Hampshire, a farmer, married Ann E. Dirgun, and married 2nd, Mrs. George Comstock, who died June 8, 1878, age 45. Children of George and Sarah: Clara M. Whitney, born Feb. 4, 1855. Mary Lillie Whitney, born Oct 1856, graduated from Tilton Female College in 1878 NATHAN WHITNEY OF ORLEANS COUNTY, NEW YORK Nathan Whitney was born in Conway, Mass. on Jan 22, 1791, and removed to Orleans County, New York, Feb 1814. He settled in the town of Barre. In the Fall of 1814, he witnessed the taking of Fort Erie. He became Justice of the Peace when the town of Barre was organized, and held this office for several years. When Orleans County was organized he became Supervisor of Barre. In this position he served until 1826. Various military offices were held by Nathan Whitney, from Lieutenant to Lieutenant-Colonel in the militia. Being most capable, honest, and efficient, he was often called upon to take official positions, and he held almost every town office there was. In 1827 Nathan Whitney removed to Elba, Genesee County, in 1827. From there he finally moved to Lee County, Illinois, where he was still living in the Fall of 1869. GLOUCESTER COUNTY, NEW JERSEY, WHITNEYS Eben Whitney married Lucy L. Warrick March 14, 1848. Eben Whitney married Bathsheba L. Heston Aug 27, 1807. ROCKINGHAM, VERMONT, WHITNEYS---GLEANINGS Agnis Whitney, in 1773 was a member of First Church, Rockingham, but she resided in Athens, Vermont. Ezra Whitney, 1790-1802 was a member of the Baptist Church in the same area. Many of the members of this church were from Chester, Vermont; Grafton, Vermont; Hinsdale, New Hampshire; Athens, Vermont; and Westminister, Vermont. John Whitney, Sr. was in the march on Ticonderoga. He was given a pound of gunpowder. John Whitly, 2d, was given one pound. John Whitney took the oath of office of allegiance, June 23, 1777. Ezra Whitney, March 3, 1778, united with the New Hampshire grants against New York jurisdiction. Sgt. John Whitney was on the Vermont Revolutionary roll for the town of Rockingham, Vermont. George I. Whitney was a graduate of Bellows Falls High School, 1881. M.M. Whitney lived on lot# 51, Bellows Falls, Vermont, 1869. Samuel Whitney s lot was near the Springfield, Vermont line, 1792. Lemuel Whitney was the deputy-grand master of King Solomon s Lodge, #44, in 1817. Asa Whitney was among the families of Rockingham in 1790. Emily Whitney of Marlboro, Vermont, born Oct 6, 1806, and died Nov 16, 1886. She married Henry Closson, Springfield, Vermont attorney. Hattie Whitney of Westminster, Vermont, married Levi Hale, 1900- 1? Fred H. Whitney, m Lena Sophia Westgate. She died 1899. John Whitney 2nd, of Rockingham, Vermont, gave title to the islands in Lake Champlain (Hero), to Dr. Jones, from Concord, Vermont, in 1779. Lucretia Whitney, of Springfield, Vermont, married March 5, 1840 to James Lovell, born May 2, 1802. She was his second wife. Minerva Abby Whitney, married Nov 26, 1856 to Charles Church, born Nov 27, 1828. They resided in Westminster, Vermont, and removed to West Northfield, Mass. S. M. Whitney was a Bellows Falls, Vermont train conductor in 1888. NEW IPSWICH, NEW HAMPSHIRE. WHITNEYS This line is John1 John2 Nathaniel3 Whitney, born Feb. 1, 1646, died Jan 7, 1732, married Mar 12, 1673, Sarah Hagar1, born Sept 3, 1651, died July 20, 1722; married Sarah ,2 died May 7, 1746. He was a farmer in Weston, Mass. William Whitney[4] born May 6, 1683, died Jan 24, 1720; married May 16, 1706, Martha Pierce, born Dec 24, 1681. Resided in Weston, Mass. William Whitney5 born July 11, 1706/7; married Sept 10, 1735, Hannah[1] dau of George and Hepzibah (Fiske) Harrington of Watertown, Mass; born July 31, 1716, died April 30, 1740; March 30, 1742, Mary2 dau of John and Hannah (Barstow) Chadwick; August 12, 1756, Margaret[3] dau of Amos and Hannah (Oldham) Gates of Framingham, Mass., widow of Thomas Spring of Weston, Mass; Jan 14, 1763, Mrs. Sarah Davis[4] of Brookline, Mass. They resided in Weston, Mass. Phineas Whitney[6] born April 23, 1740, died Dec 13, 1819, married, April 28, 1762, the dau of Lieut. Moses Willard; May, 1770, Lydia Bowles[2] of New Bedford, Mass, died Oct 11, 1805; Mrs. Jane Garfield[3] of Fitchburg, Mass., died March 4, 1824. Phineas entered the ministry in 1762, and was the first pastor of Shirley, Mass. He lived there and held the same post until his death. Charles Whitney,[7] son of Phineas, born Jan 2, 1794, died Oct. 6, 1832, married Sept. 12, 1815, Dolly Davenport of West Boylston, Mass. Charles resided in Shirley, Mass., until 1824, when he removed to Peterboro, New Hampshire. Possibly he never lived in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, but his widow lived there after his death, and his children were part of the local activity. Children of Charles Whitney and Dolly Davenport Whitney: Charles W., born Aug 25, 1817, died Dec 13, 1820. Elizabeth D., born Oct 25, 1819, died Dec 18, 1820. Charles Addington, born Oct. 10, 1821, died May 23, 1878. He married Mary Frances Parker[1] of Winchenden Mass., May 11, 1852. She died Jan 11, 1857; Mrs. Emeline V. Holman,[2] May 11, 1871. They resided in New Ipswich. Henry Augustus born Oct 6, 1823, died Feb 18, 1890. He married Oct 24, Lucretia Fall of Charlestown, Mass., who was born Nov 8, 1839. They resided in Boston. Sarah Elizabeth, born Nov 1, 1825, married April 13, 1852, David Cotting of Southboro, Mass. One child, Hattie Cotting, born 1853. This line is John[1] Richard2 Richard Whitney, born Jan 13, 1660, died Dec 15, 1723. He married Elizabeth Sawtell, dau of Jonathan Sawtell of Groton, Mass; who was born Feb 3, 1668, and died Nov 24, 1723. They resided in Stow, Mass. Richard Whitney[4] born 1694, died April 27, 1775, and married Hannah Whitcomb dau of Josiah Whitcomb of Lancaster, Mass., who was born 1693, and died Nov 17, 1743; Mrs. Hannah Ayer[2] October 26, 1755, who was born 1704 and died Sept 27, 1775. They resided in Stow, Mass. Josiah Whitney5 born Oct 12, 1731, died Jan 4, 1806; married Sept 9, 1751, Sarah Farr[1] who was born Jan 19, 1735, and died April 21, 1773. On Feb 3, 1774, he married Sarah Dwelly[2] of Bridgewater Mass. Soon after his first marriage he removed to Harvard, Mass. where he became a leading citizen. Josiah Whitney was a volunteer in both the French and Indian wars, and the Revolution. He had twenty-five children, of whom thirteen died when young. Lemuel Whitney[6] born Sept 19, 1784, died July 9, 1853; he married 1804, the dau of Henry and Betsey Hall, who was born Feb. 6, 1788, and died April 30, 1852. Lemuel was a farmer in Ashburnham, Mass. and served as a captain of the militia. Henry Hall Whitney[7] born June 11, 1805, died Dec 26, 1888; married Sept 26, 1830, Caroline F. Bailey. They lived in New Ipswich from 1848 to 1854, afterward in East Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Children of Henry and Caroline: Elnora Caroline, born Nov 17, 1831, died May 2, 1851. Permelia, born June 20, 1833, died Feb 18, 1884, who married May 5, 1853. Samuel Wheeler[1] who died June 7, 1882; she married Hiram Williams,2 Jan 1, 1883. Amanda, born Aug 27, 1836, married May 21, Alaric A. Boyce. They had four children. John Henry, born Nov 21, 1838. Sophia, born Nov 29, 1841, married Aug 12, 1868, George W.. Bascom who was born Oct 1, 1843, and died Oct 8, 1884. They resided in Clinton, Mass. Their child was Frank Preston Bascom, born April 28, 1876. Luceba, born Nov 27, 1845, died Sept 8, 1848. John Henry Whitney born Nov 21, 1838, married Sept 10, 1862, Mary Jane Nutting. Their children were: Charles, born Oct 14, 1869. Leslie, born May 20, 1877. Allen, born Feb 14, 1882. Otis Whitney7 brother of Henry Hall Whitney, and son of Lemuel[6] was born Nov 14, 1809, died 1884; married May 3, 1840, Hannah Parker who was born 1819, and died Oct 7, 1882. They resided in Ashburnham, Mass., until 1870, when they came to New Ipswich, and purchased the Heald Farm. In later years they occupied a home called Whittemore Hill where they spent their remaining years. Their children were: Julia A., born Feb 17,1841, married Nov 23, 1862, George W. Cushing[1]; Oliver H. Perry[2] born 1826, died Sept 28, 1906. Newton 0., born June 8, 1844. Herbert W., born Sept 6, 1846. Charles P., born Dec 8, 1848, married Mary O. Thons. They resided in Fitchburg, Mass. Their child Lottie, married Walter K. Pulsifer. Newton Otis8, born June 8, 1844, married Nov 20, 1869, Jennie A. Hanshaw. They resided in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. Their children were: Cora A., born May 23, 1871, married 1888, Everett E. Petts. Waldo D., born Sept 3, 1873, married May Parsons. Myron O., born March 12, 1877, married Lucy Francis. Ethel May, born Sept 1, 1884, married Charles Donley. Herbert W.[8] born Sept 6, 1846, died Dec 18, 1909; married Emma A. Marble1 who was born March 16, 1852, and died Nov 16, 1875. He married, Nov 1, 1878, Ella M. Atwood[2] who was born June 25, 1849. Children: Melvin, born March 30, 1872. Harry H.. born Aug 18, 1879. Lorna B. born May 17, 1883, married ______Oliver. Wilbur C., born April 10, 1885, married Mabel Woodward. Carl R., born Jan 7, 1891. This line is Benjamin3 John2 John1 Benjamin Whitney,[3] born June 28, 1660, died 1736. He married March 30, 1687, Abigail Bemis,[1] the daughter of William and Mary Bemis Hagar; Elizabeth________.[2] They resided in Watertown. John[4] son of the above Benjamin,[4] was born June 15, 1694, died 1772; he married Susan _______ ;[1] on Oct 6, 1737, he married Bethia Cutter;[2] then on Nov 28, 1754, Beriah Bemis[3] dau of John, and widow of Daniel Child and Joseph Pierce. They lived in Watertown, Mass. Ezekiel[5] son of John[4] was baptised Apr}l 12, 1742, and died 1803. He married Dec 6, 1763, Catherine Draper[1] of Roxbury, Mass. On May 19, 1769, he married Catherine Anson.[2] They resided in Watertown, Mass. Christopher Columbus[7] was the grandson of Ezekiel[5] and was born Sept 13, 1795, and died April 24, 1873. He married Sept. 15, 1820, Betsey Putnam, who was born Aug 29, 1801, and died July 31, 1861. There seems to be no complete record of all the children of Ezekiel,[7] but town records seem to indicate that Christopher[7] was the grandson of Ezekiel, and that in childhood an uncle Leonard took care of him, Christopher came from Watertown, Mass., to New Ipswich, after his marriage. He served in the War of 1812. Children: Christopher, born Oct. 26, 1822, died Feb 15, 1823. Albert, born April 11, 1824, died Jan 7, 1895. He married Oct 21, 1846, Lucena Davis. Henry Isaacs, born Feb 17, 1830, died May 5, 1910; he married Mary Ann Stanley[1] of Dublin who died 1888. In 1890, he married Sarah Jane Messer Gould[2] of Washington, New Hampshire. He was associated with his brother in Battle Creek, Michigan, for two years, but spent the rest of his life in the area, and was a selectman, treasurer, and representative for many years. Boynton of Greenville, NH. EARLY WHITNEY FAMILIES OF MILFORD, MASS Jonathan2 Whitney married at Watertown, Mass., Oct 30, 1656, Lydia Jones. They had the following children; Lydia, Jonathan, Anna, John, Josiah, Elinor, Isaac, Joseph, Abigail, and Benjamin. Benjamin Whitney[3] was an earlier settler of Sherborn, Mass. We commence this lineage chart with his son Jonathan.[4] Jonathan was born about 1680; he married Susanna . Their marriage took place about 1700 or 1701. Their children were: Susannah, born Jan 20, 1702-3, married Gershom Eames of Holliston, Mass. Jonathan, born July 31, 1706, settled in Milford, Mass. and married Lydia Jones, daughter of Elder John Jones. Keziah, born July 31, 1706, married Abraham Jones, son of Elder John. Dorothy, born Aug 28, 1708, married Ebenezer Hunt of Holliston. Mary, born May 28, 1710, married Joseph Jones, son of Elder John. Lydia,. born March 3, 1712, married Isaac Hill of Holliston, Mass. Elias, born Nov 14, 1716, settled in the Bear-Hill district. Mehetabel, born Dec 27, 1719, married David Cutler and settled in town. George, born Aug 12, 1721, married Sarah Cozzens of Holliston; they had four children. Two other children are claimed as theirs, by BARRY AND MORSE, but they are not in the father s will. It is supposed that Jesse and Hannah were grandchildren. He made his will Feb. 2, of 1753, and appointed his wife Susannah, and his eldest son Jonathan, co-executors. It was proved in Milford, Feb 11, 1754. Jonathan5 was born in what is now Medford, Mass., Oct 17, 1704, and is now thought to be part of Milford, Mass., near Deerbrook. It was long known as the Whitney place. Jonathan married Lydia Jones, the dau of John and Sarah Jones, on Jan 26, 1727. Their children were: Susannah, born Feb 12, 1728, married Isaac Tenney,[1] Noah Wiswell.[2] Jonathan, born Oct 18, 1729, died one day old. Jesse, born Nov 24, 1730, settled, lived and died on the homestead. Lydia, born Nov 18, 1732, married Samuel Bowker of Hopkinton. Jonathan, born July 26, 1734, married Esther Parkhurst. Sarah, whose birth was not found, married Wales Cheney, son of William of Milford. Ruth, bap. April 11, 1742. Baptismal record found. Died young. David, bap. Sept 21, 1746 Jonathan[5] left no will, his estate, which was ample, was divided by five commissioners who were appointed by the court. The date his widow died is not known. Jesse6 Whitney son of the above Jonathan, born Nov 24, 1730, married Mary Cheney, daughter of William, Jr., and Joanna, on Sept 22, 1757. Jesse inherited a large portion of his father s homestead. His second wife was widow Ruth Wight, in 1779, who died 1785. His third wife was Abigail Rawson, of Upton, Mass., daughter of William Rawson. This event probably took place July 1794. The will of Jesse Whitney was filed April 17, 1810. His children were: Olive, born Feb 9, 1758, lived and died unmarried. Susanna, born July 12, 1759, died April 6, 1760. Rhoda, born Oct 8, 1760, married Win. Hayden of Hopkinton, Dec 7, 1779. Hachaliah, born April 5, 1762, lived and died in Milford, married twice. Lucy and Ruth, twins, were born July 17, 1764. Ruth died the next year. Lucy married Joseph Chamberlain of Hopkinton. Asa, born Sept 4, 1766, died Oct 7, 1768. Anna, born July 13, 1770, married William Abbey, Nov 27, 1791. Major Hachaliah Whitney,[7] born April 5, 1762, inherited much of the homestead. He married Abigail Nelson,[1] June 29, 1786. She was the dau of Gershom and Mercy Puffer Nelson, born July 30, 1765. She died Dec 10 1838, age 73. Hachaliah married the second time to Mrs. Olive Madden Cobb, the widow of Lewis Cobb, on Oct 9, 1842. Hachaliah died Nov 14, 1848. His wife, Olive died a year later. Children of Hachaliah and Abigail: Ethan, born April 22, 1788, married Betsey Miller Green. Jesse, born Oct 12, 1790, married Rebecca Fisk. Nelson, born March 24, 1790, died July 19, 1790. Abigail, born Jan 6, 1803, a maiden lady. Jesse Whitney,[8] son of Hachaliah and Abigail, born Oct 12, 1790, married Rebecca Fisk, June 12, 1817. She was born in 1800, family not known. Known child was Rowanna Semira Whitney, born Aug 28, 1820, married Israel Patch. No children. Jesse Whitney died Feb 1, 1850, and Abigail passed away, Aug 10, 1871. Ethan Whitney,[8] brother of the above Jesse, and son of Hachaliah and Abigail, was born April 22, 1788. He married Betsey Miller Green, Jan 7, 1810. She was the dau of Lemuel and Sukey Green, and was born in Milford, Nov 22, 1792. Their children were: Nelson, born May 5, 1811, married Ruth Guild of Milford, Apr 6, 1838 Harriot, born April 9, 1813. Willis, born ? but died Sept 11, 1817, age about 2 years. There were other children of Ethan. He died away from Milford, somewhere about 1820. Mrs. Betsey Whitney, his widow, married Micah Bent, on Sept 9, 1827. They removed to Bell. Nelson Whitney[9] was born May 5, 1811, and married Ruth Guild, possibly of Millbury, April 6, 1836. The children were: Alonzo, born June 2, 1837. Melissa Ruth, born March 1, 1839, died Dec 25, 1843.
