Joseph Adams (Ruth4 Whitney, John3, John2, John1), son of Joseph and Ruth4 (Whitney) Adams. was born 1717, Brookline, MA,[1] and died 1799, Newton, MA.[2]

He married, 2 Apr 1740, Newton, MA, Mercy Fowle, daughter of Edmund and Mercy (-----) Fowle. She was born 1721, Newton, MA, and died 1782, Newton, MA.

He married secondly, 25 Nov 1782, Newton, MA, Thankful (Norcross) Spring, daughter of Philip and Sarah (-----) Norcross. She was born 23 Aug 1726, Newton, MA, and died 1 May 1801, Newton, MA. She had married firstly, 5 Feb 1745, Newton, MA, Samuel Spring.

They resided before 1750 in Brookline, 1750 - 1799 in Newton, home of his first wife - perhaps inherited property there.

ii. Joseph Adams, b. 3 Jun 1751, Newton, MA; d. 24 Apr 1813, Newton, MA; m.(1) 1 Jun 1775, Newton, MA, Lydia Meade, dau. of Joshua and Lucy (Parker) Mead; m.(2) 3 Dec 1801, Newton, MA, Lois (Wright) White. On 22 Dec 1806, he was chosen Deacon of the Second Church of Newton.
iii. Roger Adams, b. 27 May 1753, Newton, MA; d. 10 Apr 1811, Newton, MA, aged 58 years; m.(1) 9 Nov 1777, Newton, MA, Hepseybeth Russell, daughter of Daniel and Hannah (Robbins) Russell; "Lt." m.(2) 14 Oct 1805, Cambridge, MA, Mary Russell "of Cambridge", sister of his first wife. On 2 Sep 1778 Newton, Middlesex, MA, he was a Private, Capt. Edward Fuller's Company, Col. Thatcher's Regiment. On 19 Jul 1795, he and Hepseybeth Russell were members of the Second Church of Newton.

v. Smith Adams, b. 13 Mar 1757, Newton, MA; m. 10 Oct 1779, Newton, MA, Lucy Warren "of Watertown".
vi. Mercy Adams, b. 12 Nov 1759, Newton, MA.
vii. Sarah Adams, b. 18 Oct 1761, Newton, MA; m. 3 May 1780, Waltham, MA, James Green.
viii. Marcy Adams, b. 9 Aug 1765, Newton, MA.
