Abel7 Whitney (Levi6, Abel5, Naham4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Levi6 and Happy (Higgins) Whitney, was born 22 Mar 1811, Standish, ME,[1] and died 1884, Naples, ME.

Marriage intentions were filed 28 Mar 1835 and published 12 Apr 1835, Standish, ME, for him and Sarah Cole.[2] He married firstly, 19 Apr 1835, Standish, ME, Sarah Cole.[3] She was born 1811, and died 1853.

Marriage intentions were filed 11 Dec 1863, Standish, ME, for him and his second wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Leavitt of Gorham.[4] She was born about 1826.

He resided in Standish, ME in the census of 1850, and in Naples, ME in the censuses of 1860 through 1880. He was a cooper.

Notes

It seems possible that his second wife's surname was Leavitt, not Seavitt. The maternity of the children is in doubt, given the dates above of his first wife's death and his second marriage.

Transferred from DC Cavalry to 1st Maine Cavalry in Sep 1864, discharged 27 Aug 1864. He was a prisoner of war, taken at Sycamore Church 16 Sep 1864, and released 6 Jul 1865. He was never married. Died 13 Jun 1931, 472 Pleasant Street, Melrose, MA.
