Amos Newhall7 Whitney (Peter6, Jonas5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Peter6 and Joanna (Newhall) Whitney, was born 26 Nov 1805, Gray, ME, and died sometime after 1843, possibly in the Caribbean.

He married, first, 2 Sep 1827, Gray, ME, Mary Wyer Jones. They were divorced Jun 1834, Penobscot Co., ME.[1] She might have been the "Mary Whitney" who, according to unsourced online pages, was born 5 Jan 1812, Portland, ME, and died 26 Jan 1878, Springfield, MO. She "of Buffalo" married 30 Apr 1837, Simsbury, CT, John Smith Phelps "of Simsbury",[2] who became Governor of Missouri. Online references list her as being "of Portland, Maine". Do we have two marriages confused here?

He married, second, 23 Feb 1843, St. Michael, Barbados, Dorothy Franklin, daughter of William Jonathan and Mary (Clarke) Franklin. She was baptized 3 Oct 1816, St. James, Barbados.
