Benjamin Nichols8 Whitney (Oliver7, Joshua6, Caleb5, Jonathan4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), born Rochester, Vermont, 1815; married 21 May 1840, Lovina R. Lowell, born Nov. 13, 1822. He has been a farmer all his life, is a good Republican, hard worker, honest, and is respected by everybody; resided Rochester, Vermont.

Children of Benjamin Nichols8 Whitney:

i. Martin D.9 Whitney, born 25 May 1841; married Ora A. Shultz.
ii. Varnum Bruce Whitney, born 11 Sep 1844. He was orderly sergeant of the First Vermont Heavy Artillery, and promoted for bravery at Petersburg. Was taken prisoner at Weldon Gap and died in Florence, South Carolina.
iii. Julius Lowell Whitney, born 26 Oct 1847; married Lucy Austin.
iv. Herbert Whitney, born 6 Nov 1850; married Mary Traffarn.
v. Alice Jane Whitney, born 13 Jun 1856; married 1878, Hiram Bliss Morgan; resided W. Chesterfield, New Hampshire
Ch.: Mary and Herbert, who died in infancy.
