She was born 24 Feb 1808, Concord, NH, and died 12 Dec 1884, Melrose, MA, aged 76 years 9 months 11 days, of valvular disease of heart and dropsy.[4]

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitney, of the Highlands, reached the fifty-eighth anniversary of their marriage, Friday, 6 Jun 1884. Mr. Whitney started from Charlestown, MA, 5 Jun 1826, at sunrise, and arrived at Chichester, NH, at sundown, in a chaise, a distance of about seventy miles. The following morning he was united in marriage to Lydia Maria Emery, having seen her but twice, their courtship being done mostly by proxy. And that they have lived together so long and happily proves that long courtships are not always necessary. Mr. Charles Whitney, a gentleman highly esteemed by all who knew him, died on Sunday, at his home on Melrose street, aged 79 years. It was only 16 days after the death of his wife, with whom he been wedded nearly 59 years. It seemed a beautiful mercy of the Almighty that death should not long divide them, and, although their departure is sorrowful to the mourners bereft, yet they were sheaves fully ripe, and God has garnered them. [Melrose Journal.] He died 27 Dec 1884; resided Boston, MA.

He was an innkeeper, at 41 Lincoln St.
