Charles Edgar9 Whitney (Ezra8, Zerah7, James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Ezra8 and Hannah Hodges (DePuy) Whitney, was born 27 Jan 1845, Cascade, MI, and died 9 Dec 1923, Grand Rapids, MI, aged 79 years.[1]

He married, 24 Dec 1869, Muskegon, MI, Melissa "Mittie" D. Rowe, both of Hopkins, MI,[2] daughter of Gilbert and Margaret (Van Tassell) Rowe. She was born about Jul 1850, Warren Co., PA.

He was a soldier in the war of 1861; resided Bradley, MI.

Charles Edgar9 and Melissa "Mittie" D. (Rowe) Whitney had no children. They adopted:

i. (adopted) Ethel Rowe10 Whitney, b. Feb 1891, IL; parents b. MI and IL; m. 24 Sep 1913, Plainwell, MI, Dygal E. McKellan, b. ca. 1892, Canada.[3]
