Charles Philo8 Whitney (Abel7, James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Abel7 and Elvira Triphosa (Beecher) Whitney, was born 23 May 1834, Bridgewater, CT, and died 5 Apr 1890, Wakeman, OH, aged 55 years, of pneumonia.[1] He was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion, OH.[2]
He married, 30 Mar 1870, Florence, OH, Cilinda Elizabeth Ennes, daughter of Moses Dewitt and Charlotte Elizabeth (Van Winkle) Ennis. She was born 13 Sep 1849, Wakeman, OH, and died after 1890.
He was a carpenter and joiner; resided Colorado and Califorina, where he was in mining business some time; resided Coleman Station, MI.
Phoenix says the following:
- "Charles Philo Whitney, b. in Bridgewater, Conn., 23 May 1834; a carpenter and joiner; lived in Wakeman, Ohio, till the Spring of 1857; passed a year in Birmingham, Ohio, leaving there in the Spring or 1858, for Tabor, Iowa, where he staid with short exceptions till 13 Ap. 1860; removed to Colorado, and afterward to California, where he engaged in mining and many other enterprises in various parts of the State; married at Birmingham, in Florence, Ohio, 30 March 1870, at the house of Cyrus H. Ennes, by Elbert N. Taft, Esq., to Cilinda Elizabeth Ennes, whose father then lived at Birmingham. She was born at Wakeman, Ohio, 13 Sept. 1849, dau. of Moses Dewitt and Charlotte Elizabeth (Van Winkle) Ennis. They lived in Bayfield, Lake Superior; in South Saginaw, Mich.; and, in June 1874; in Coleman Station, Mich."
