Family:Whitney, David Jewett (1836-a1880)

David Jewett⁸ Whitney (John⁷, Salmon⁶, Jonas⁵, Jonas⁴, Moses³, Richard², John¹), son of John⁷ and Mary Appleton (Jewett) Whitney, was born 30 Sep 1836, Marblehead, MA, and died after 1880.

He married firstly, 23 or 26 Nov 1857, Rockport, MA, or Wakefield, MA, Mary Emily P. Bartlett, daughter of Joseph and Mary P. (-----) Bartlett.^[1] She was born about 1839, Rockport, MA, and died 28 Sep 1858, Rockport, MA, aged 19 years, of consumption.^[2]

He married secondly, 5 Dec 1861, probably New York, NY, Martha Jane Hinkel. She was born 15 Aug 1836.

He was for five years in Boston in the dry goods business, and went to New York city in 1857; he resided at 809 East 21st street; was educated at Phillips Academy; is now a commission merchant.

Children of David Jewett⁸ and Mary E. P. (Bartlett) Whitney:

i.	David J.9 Whitney, b. 16 Aug 1858, Rockport, MA;[3] d. 6 Nov 1858, Rockport, MA, aged 3 months, of atrophy from weaning.[4]

David Jewett⁸ and Martha Jane (Hinkel) Whitney had no children.
