Rev. Edwin James8 Whitney (Alvin L.7, James6, Cornelius5, Matthias4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Alvin L.7 and Betsey (Cook) Whitney; born Pavilion, New York, 10 Mar 1817; married at Le Roy, New York, June 27, 1871, Almira C. Bentley, born 14 Oct 1849.

He remained at his parents' home in Pavilion until he was eighteen years of age. He learned the trade of broom making, which he followed for several years, until he was 27, when he was received into the Genessee conference of the M. E. church as a probationer in the traveling connection as preacher, being appointed at Parma Center, Monroe County, New York, as first circuit, Sept., 1874. His following appointments have been: 1877 to 1879, Newfane, New York; 1879 to 1881, Kendall, New York; 1881 to 1884, East Clarkson; 1884 to 1885, Chili, New York; 1885 to 1888, North Parma, New York; 1888 to 1893, Waterport, New York, and in October, 1893, he was stationed at Castile, where he now lives. He is a son of Alvin Whitney, who was born in Granville, Washington County, New York, September, 1803, moving to Pavilion in 1825, marrying Miss Betsey Cook, December, 1826. Alvin died 4 Feb 1883; resided Castile, New York.

v. Yale B. Whitney, born 22 Jan 1884.
vi. Case Ward Whitney, born 4 Aug 1890.
