Egbert Travis Whitney, parentage unknown, was born Oct 1812, NY, and died after 1910.

He married about 1838, Cairo, Greene Co., NY, Mary Curtis, daughter of Isaac and Betsey (-----) Curtis. She was born about 1814, and died 1901.

They lived in Middletown and Shandaken, NY, then Victoria and Copley, IL. Apparently Egbert went alone to Illinois before 1855, leaving his wife and daughters living with her father, Isaac Curtis, and family.

i. Mortimer Wilson Whitney, b. 18 Oct 1839, Midlothian, NY; m. Phebe Ellen Byram.
ii. Wilfred Herbert Whitney, b. ca. 1841; d. after 1860 (when he is called "Wilbur").
iii. Theodore F. Whitney, b. Oct 1843; d. 17 Aug 1864, Andersonville Prison, GA. Company G, 89th Infantry Regiment Illinois, Civil War. His mother was pensioned based on his service.
iv. Grace Adelaide Whitney, b. Aug 1845, Ulster Co., NY; d. after 1930; m. 12 Aug 1896, Knox Co., IL, Samuel Leander Shannon, Jr.
v. Albert Whitney, b. 12 Feb 1848, Shandaken, NY (gravestone indicates 5 Apr 1848); d. 12 Mar 1850, Shandaken, NY; bur. Highmount Cemetery, Shandaken, NY.
vi. Jenette Caroline Whitney, b. 26 Sep 1851, Shandaken, NY; d. 6 Feb 1918, Victoria, IL, aged 66 years; unmarried.
