Ephraim4 Whitney (Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Joseph3 and Rebecca (Burge) Whitney,[1] was born 11 Mar 1715/6, Sherborn, MA,[2] and died after 1759.[3] Since he doesn't appear in the 1771 tax valuation list, or the 1790 census, he probably died before 1771.
Ephraim married, 18 Dec 1744, Groton, MA, Esther Woods,[4] daughter of Thomas Woods and Lydia Bennett. She was born 19 Mar 1725, Groton, MA.

i. Esther5 Whitney, bapt. 2 Apr 1749.[5] ii. Mary Whitney, bapt. 25 Aug 1751.[6] She and Molly Whitney may be the same person. iii. Alice Whitney, b. 30 Dec 1753.[7] iv. Lydia Whitney, bapt. 25 Jul 1756.[8] v. Rebecca Whitney, bapt. 27 Jul 1760.[9] She may be the Rebecca Whitney who m. 10 Apr 1781, Groton, MA, Joseph Chamberlain,[10] son of Phinehas and Lydia (-----) Chamberlain, both "of Pepperell". The alternative candidate is Rebecca5 Whitney, daughter of Joseph4 and Rebecca (Nutting) Whitney.
