Ephraim6 Whitney (John5, John4, Joseph3, John2, John1), son of John5 and Bethiah (Cutter) Whitney,[1] was born 16 Apr 1740, Sudbury, MA,[2] and died 16 Sep 1775, Cambridge, MA, "accidentally shot".[3]

He married, 4 Jul 1765, Dedham, MA, Mary Reed,[4] probably the same as the daughter Mara Reed, of Josiah and Elizabeth (Williams) Reed,[5] who was born 2 Mar 1747, Needham, MA.[6] Her date and place of death are unknown.

In Dedham, 19 Dec 1765, "the Selectmen ... by warrant ... warn Ephraim Whitney to depart in fourteen days, or give security to indemnify the Town." Later, about Nov 1781, "John Reed informs ... that he has taken into his family Mary Whitney about the 19th day of June 1781, last from Medfield." John Reed was Mary's brother.

iii. Martha Whitney, b. 9 Feb 1771, Framingham, MA;[11] no further record.
iv. John Whitney, b. 9 Jul 1773, Framingham, MA;[12] d. 18 Jun 1805, Framingham, MA.[13]
v. Ephraim Whitney, b. 6 Jan 1776 (posthumously), Framingham, MA;[14] m. Sophia Taintor.
