George8 M. Whitney (Darius7 F., Abraham6, Richard5, Israel4, Ebenezer3, Richard2, John1), son of Darius7 F. and Loanna (Cook) Whitney, was born 10 Apr 1840, Steuben Co., NY, and died 19 Jan 1917, Grand Rapids, MI.[1][2]

He married circa 1866, MI, Charlotte ------, parentage unknown. She was born circa 1846, Calhoun Co., MI, and died before 1900, possibly Ovid, MI.

George enlisted Co. I, 16th Michigan Infantry Regiment on 28 Feb 1862. Mustered out on 17 Nov 1865.

On 5 Mar 1897, from Michigan, he applied for a pension for service in Co. I, 16th Michigan Infantry, and Co. E, 22nd Volunteer Reserve Corps, Application #1,186,888, Certificate #1,031,871.[3]
