George Sanders8 Whitney (Zimri7, John6, Zachariah5, John4, Joseph3, John2, John1), son of Zimri7 and Susanna (Sanderson) Whitney, was born 17 Apr 1819, Jaffrey, NH, and died 28 Aug 1863, Glens Falls, NY.

He married, 27 Jan 1845, Mary Eveline Barnard, daughter of Stowell and Mary (Burton) Barnard. She was born 16 Oct 1816, Peru, VT, and died 31 Dec 1889 [or 1884], Glens Falls, NY.[1]

He was born in New Hampshire, but soon after marriage moved to New York state and settled in Troy.[2] He was burned out in the big fire of 1856 and moved to Queensbury, where after a short residence he moved to Glens Fall in 1857, where he died.[3] He resided Glens Falls, NY.

This "Sarah" must be Mary Eveline (Barnard) Whitney.

1.^  28 July 2005: Beth Breinholt talked to Christopher Andersen, superintendent of Glens Falls Cemetery, who read information from records at the sexton's office. Mary Eveline was listed as "wife" of George Sanders Whitney, and apparently buried in the same grave as infant son, Charles Zimri Whitney, next to George Sanders Whitney in Glens Falls Cemetery. No headstone for her, but there was one for him.

2.^  US Census: 1850 New York, Troy Ward 8, Rensselaer Co., New York, 25 November 1850. George age 32, wife Mary age 34 and sons Stowell age 2, and George B. age 4, living with him.

3.^  US Census: 1860 New York, p. 54, Queensbury, Warren Co., New York (Glens Falls Post Office), 18 July 1860. George age 42, born New Hampshire, wife Mary E., age 44, born Vermont, also sons Stowell age 12, and Charles S. age 3, both born New York.

4.^  George Sanders and Mary Eveline had seven children, only three lived to be adults: George Burton Whitney 1846-1927; Stowell Barnard Whitney 1848-19??; Lucy Evelyne Whitney 1852-1853; Hyrum Edward Whitney and Harriet Elizabeth Whitney, twins 1854-1855; Charles Zimri Whitney 1856-1856; Charles Sanderson Whitney 1857-1941.
