Family:Whitney, George Washington (1836-1911)

George Washington Whitney, (Ransford, Samuel), son of Ransford and Eunice (Parmenter) Whitney, was born 16 Sep 1836,[1] Sterling or Holden, MA, and died 21 Jun 1911, Hopedale, MA.[2]

He married firstly, 3 May 1857, Oxford, MA, Jane (Stevens) Phetteplace, daughter of Ebenezer and Huldah (-----) Stevens.[3] She was born about 1828, Palmer or Brookfield, MA. She had married firstly, 30 Jul 1849, Sutton, MA, Joel M. Phetteplace, both of Oxford.

He married secondly, about 1863, Elizabeth Munyan, daughter of Alvin Earl and Susan (Humes) Munyan. She was born 1836,[4] Spencer, MA, or Thompson, CT, and died 1931, Hopedale, MA.[5]

They lived in Winchendon, Milford, and Hopedale, MA. In 1864 he was a shuttle maker.

i. Charles Leonard Whitney, b. 14 Sep 1864, Sutton, MA;[6] m. Frances Adelia Fitzmaurice.
ii. Ada M. Whitney, b. 8 Nov 1866, Winchendon, MA;[7] m. 3 Dec 1887, Hopedale, MA (also recorded at Worcester, MA), Wilfrid Scott, b. ca. 1866, England, son of William and Margaret T. (-----) Scott.[8]
iii. Susan A. Whitney, b. 4 Feb 1869, Winchendon, MA [given name omitted];[9] d. after 1930; m. 25 Jul 1888, Milford, MA, Herbert E. Brown, b. ca. 1865, Mendon, MA, son of Charles E. and Sallie A. F. (Bates) Brown.[10]
iv. William E. Whitney, b. Jun 1872, Hopedale, MA (recorded Milford, MA [given name omitted]);[11] m. Ida E. Bacon.

Notes

It has been hard to find information on this family, as their births don't seem to be recorded, nor George's marriage to Elizabeth. Their deaths were after the end of the available vital records.
