Ira Abraham7 Whitney (Nathan7, Ira6, Nathan5, Nathan4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Nathan7 and Susan (Davis) Whitney, was born 18 Aug 1842, Youngsville, PA, and died 5 May 1911, Youngsville, PA. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Youngsville, PA.[1]
He married, 21 Dec 1870, Brokenstraw, PA, Sabrina Evelyn Mead, daughter of John and Eveline A. (Gilson)(King) Mead. She was born 25 Jun 1845, Youngsville, PA, and died 1905. She was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Youngsville, PA.[2]
"Whitney, Ira A., Pittsfield p. o., was born in Youngsville in 1842, a son of Nathan and Susan Davis Whitney. She was a daughter of Abraham and Ruth Mead Davis, and was born in 1809. Nathan was born in Massachusetts in 1803; they were born in Youngsville, and had a family of seven children, four of whom are now living—-Ira A., Lucy, M. D., and Dr. William D. Nathan was a son of Ira Whitney, settled in Youngsville in 1824, and died in 1862. Ira A. embarked in the mercantile trade in Pittsfield in 1873, dealing extensively in all classes of merchandise, grain, seeds, feed, flour, lumber, shingles, clothing, boots and shoes, and does a general barter business to accommodate his farming trade. He was appointed postmaster November, 1855. He married Sabrina Mead, daughter of John and Eveline Mead, in 1870; they have three children-—Ella, Mary, Lucy P., and Fred."[3]

"News was received of the death of I. A. Whitney at 11 a.m. of Friday. Mr. Whitney was a resident of Pittsfield and had for many years been in the mercantile business. He was one of the Past Noble Grands of the I.O.O.F. lodge, No. 500, of Youngsville. He was well known and loved and respected by all who knew him."[4]
He served in the U.S. Navy.
