Sgt. Jacob5 Whitney (Jonas4, Eleazar3, Thomas2, John1), son of Jonas4 and Sarah (Perry) Whitney, was born 24 Jul 1737, Roxbury, MA,[1] and died 14 Jan 1803, Roxbury, MA, aged 66 years.[2]

He married, 15 Nov 1759, Roxbury, Massachusetts, Rachel Whiting, daughter of Nathaniel and Hannah (Lyon) Whiting.[3] She was born 19 Apr 1737, Roxbury, MA, and died 12 Aug 1812, Milton, MA, aged 75 years.[4]

During the Revolutionary War he was sergt. in that company commanded by Capt. Corey from Roxbury. Res. West Roxbury, Mass.[5]

i. Prudence6 Whitney, b. 25 Jul 1760; bapt. 17 Aug 1760;[6] m. 29 Dec 1790, Roxbury, MA, Lewis Jones.[7]
ii. Reuben Whitney, b. 6 Nov 1762. In 1781 he enlisted in Gen. Knox artillery, served 3 years and was discharged. He was born in Roxbury but served in the Newton Co.
iii. Lemuel Whitney, b. 29 Apr 1765; bapt. 19 May 1765, Roxbury, MA;[8] m. Grace (Morse) Esty.
iv. Jabez Whitney, b. 30 Nov 1767; bapt. 20 Dec 1767, Roxbury, MA;[9] m.(1) Elizabeth -----; m.(2) Sarah Savoy.
v. Hannah Whitney, b. 8 Apr 1772; bapt. 31 May 1772, Roxbury, MA;[10] d. 14 Jul 1789, Roxbury, MA, aged 18 years.[11]
vi. Moses Whitney, b. 1 Jan 1775; m.(1) Rebecca Dunbar; m.(2) "Mrs." Mary P. (-----) Kitteredge.
