James Fordyce7 Whitney (Cyrus6, Isaiah5, Isaiah4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Cyrus6 and Mary7 (Whitney) Whitney, was born 14 Apr 1806, Harvard, MA,[1] and died 18 or 28 Apr 1874, Stow, MA, aged 68 years 11 days, of pneumonia.[2]

He married, 18 Sep 1834, Bolton, MA, Mary Gates8 Whitney of Stow,[3] daughter of Moses7 and Lucy (Gates) Whitney. She was born 31 Aug 1807, Stow, MA, and died 30 Jun 1886, Stow, MA, aged 78 years 10 months, of pneumonia.[4]

From the Albany (New York) Journal: "James F. Whitney, who died at Stow, Massachusetts, was well known to many of our older citizens. He was for a number of years a prominent merchant in this city and an active member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow orders. His death was from pneumonia after a sickness of four days; he was in the 68th year of his age." He resided Albany, NY.

ii. Lucia Caroline Whitney, b. 24 Aug 1838, Albany, NY; d. 13 Jan 1851, aged 13 years 5 months; bur. Lower Cemetery, Stow, MA.[7]
iii. Cyrus Henry Whitney, b. 29 Aug 1840 (but 29 Aug 1839 per gravestone), Albany, NY; unmarried; resided Quincy, IL, 117 Fourth Street, north, in 1895; d. 1 Feb 1927 (but 1 Feb 1928 per gravestone); bur. Lower Cemetery, Stow, MA.[8]
iv. James Francis Whitney, b. 23 Oct 1842, Albany, NY; m. 24 Oct 1874, Emma F. Chamberlin, b. 25 Oct 1849; resided s. p. 191 Park St., Detroit, MI. He is connected with M.C.R.R.
v. Mary Elizabeth Whitney, b. 30 Nov 1844, Albany, NY; m. 19 Jun 1869, Stow, MA, Charles A. Warren, b. ca. 1846, Stow, MA, son of Francis W. and Lucy A. (-----) Warren;[9] s. p.; resided 789 Cass Av. Detroit, MI.
vi. Adeline Whitney, b. 13 Nov 1846, Albany, NY; resided Stow, MA; d. 25 Aug 1928; unmarried; bur. Lower Cemetery, Stow, MA.[10]
vii. Martha Gates Whitney, b. 19 Dec 1848, Albany, NY; resided Stow, MA; d. 12 Oct 1924; unmarried; bur. Lower Cemetery, Stow, MA.[11]
