Jesse6 Whitney (Hezekiah5, Hezekiah4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Hezekiah5 and Sarah (Taylor) Whitney, was born 10 Jan 1780, and died 25 Jun 1853, Wolcott, VT, and was buried in the garden near his house.

He married firstly, 8 Jul 1801, Hardwick, VT, Eliza Vance,[1] daughter of John and Anna (Hoag) Vance. She was born 4 Jan 1780, and died 20 Sep 1830, Wolcott, VT, and was buried in their garden.

He married secondly, 10 or 11 Jan 1832, Wolcott, VT, Hephzibah Smith,[2] daughter of Samuel and Jane (Kelly) Smith. She was born 27 Feb 1799, Stratford, VT, and died after 1880.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a farmer and, for many years, an inn-keeper in Wolcott, Vt. where he often served the public as collector, justice of the peace, selectman, town-clerk, and postmaster, and was representative in 1831."

iii. Freeman Whitney, b. 10 Jan 1812, Wolcott, VT; m.(1) Nancy Evans Watson; m.(2) Betsey Robert (Smith) Nutter.

iv. Jesse Madison7 Whitney, b. 16 Feb 1834, Wolcott, VT; d. 17 Aug 1854, Wolcott, VT; unmarried; buried in his father's garden, Wolcott, VT.
v. Harriet Eliza Whitney, b. 16 Jan 1836, Wolcott, VT; m. Josiah Newell7 Whitney, her cousin.
vi. Mary Jane Whitney, b. 8 Jul 1839, Wolcott, VT; d. after 1880; m.(1) 8 or 9 Mar 1859, Hardwick, VT, Thaddeus Orlando Graves, son of Thaddeus and Lucy (-----) Graves;[4] m.(2) 25 Jan 1865, Morrisville, VT, Henry Danvers Gilman. She was divorced from him, at the December term of the Lamoille County Court, in 1871; had her maiden name restored; and was living at Wolcott, without children, in 1874.
